SPEAKER_02

Hi, and welcome to this episode, this bonus episode, excuse me, of Sassin's Hips. Today we're talking about Married at First Sight, season 17, episode in sickness and suspicion. I'm Lisa, and today I am sipping on just a little red wine. Because it's Sunday. I'm drinking the Jesus juice.

SPEAKER_01

And I'm your co-host, Agnes, and I am still sipping on lemon ginger tea. I should so when I'm sick and when I'm half asleep, I should just stay in one of those two. Okay. Okay. When I ordered, so I felt myself getting sick Thursday night. I'm like, okay, I'm gonna let me just make sure I have everything I need. So I did an online order to pick up. That way on my way home from work on Friday, I could just get it and go home. Got my teas, my tissues, my meds, all that fun stuff. The lemon ginger tea did not realize it until like three, four cups in that it's a probiotic one. I'm like, oh great. So my normally very good system, I eat, I gotta go to the bathroom. I eat, I go to the bathroom. Kind of like when I eat, it pushes all out. There's no, it's even more so now. So I look at food and I gotta go. Yeah, I look at food, I gotta go to the bathroom. So maybe I could lose like a pound or two this weekend.

SPEAKER_03

There you go. Goals.

SPEAKER_01

I'm okay with being sick. Last time I was sick was November of 2024, and I was sick the entire month. It was bad. But I lost like 15 pounds. So I'm like, I wouldn't mind that this time.

SPEAKER_03

I don't think it I'm okay with that. Any hot takes of this episode? The editors are at it again.

SPEAKER_02

That 90s party looked good until the guests got there. And I just um I don't know. Becca and Austin No. Becca, yeah, Becca and Austin. There's something like it it was kind of coming to me about him, like especially when he was like when she said about him saying, Don't tell me what to do, there was a thread there, but I couldn't quite grab it. And um and like, you know, I think I have thoughts on why all of a sudden Brendan is back to being, you know, quote unquote, a good guide for Emily.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

And also Cameron kind of shocked me with his confession. So those are my hot takes. My hot take teas.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Okay, so let's dig in and just dive into the drama and the tea. No pun intended. Let's start off with Claire and Cameron. So tell me about your susp his your surprise of his confession.

SPEAKER_02

Well, Cameron and Brennan, they are like somewhere they're talking, you know, and the whole thing about like decision day is looming and decision day is coming up. And yeah, I get it. Decision day, we know. But, you know, Cameron talks a little bit about his ups and downs with Claire. But I found it to be very, you know, like I almost want to say refreshing. But he says that if she wants to stay married, he wants to stay married. I'm surprised that you're surprised. Well, that's the thing. It's like I'm kind of not surprised, but I am surprised because I think that he's actually really into her. So I'm not surprised that he would feel that way, but I am kind of surprised in the way he put it.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Which is kind of like, well, if she wants to, then I will. Not I want to, and I hope she does too, if that kind of makes sense.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, I have a thought on that. Okay.

SPEAKER_02

And I think that Cameron overall has been a good guy. I think he had his hiccups in the beginning. And maybe a lot of that was just growing pains or him trying to figure out how best to work with player because let's be honest, they're strangers, you know, and so once you know where the puzzle pieces fit, it's it's easy to put them back in the same place. But until then, you know, it's a lot of bumping into things, right? And trying different slots, so to speak. Yeah, and I was like really refreshed at his openness and him actually just being honest and it not being something that kind of made him seem better on camera.

SPEAKER_01

So that that that's really all I have. It's nice to see that compared to the other people on that's currently on the show.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

On the front. I think he worded it that way. Yeah, it was kind of weird, but I don't think it was anything like, oh, I don't care. If you want to, I will. I think it was more like because she was so I can't think of the right word, for lack of better term, a little wishy-washy and back and forth. And like if there's something she wants, I'm fully in it. But if she doesn't, then I'm walking away. I think it's more like she needs to decide what she definitely wants.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I got that. Yeah, so he's I did get that. It I guess to me, it's just when you have someone like Michael who is very careful in the the words that they choose.

SPEAKER_04

True.

SPEAKER_02

And I think that like maybe that was in my forefront because they also did bring it up in this episode. But so just for me, watching him, it just seemed, like I said, that part just seems surprised. Not that he would want to stay with her, because I think he genuinely liked her. I mean, she's beautiful, so I'm sure he was attracted to her. But for him, it wasn't just like I hope that she wants to stay married, I want to give it another go. It was, it was more so about him saying, kind of like letting her make the decision for him. And that that's the part that I was like a little surprised at.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

And I get it, like, there's definitely two ways to look at that. You can, you know, one person can see it and say, well, obviously that's what he wants, and he's just saying, if she wants to, then I want to, but I don't know, maybe that's just not how I read into it.

SPEAKER_03

That's all.

SPEAKER_01

I like um Claire's mother kind of in a motherly loving way, kind of like put her in a place. Like when I had cancer, you just kind of you don't pretty much say you don't want to be bothered sometimes when you're sick. You just need to deal with it in your own way. Not everyone wants to be around people. You need to sometimes, it's not about you, it's about Cameron and what he's going through. So I and I'm glad how mother kind of like reminded her that everyone deals with what they're going through differently, and it's not about you. Not her per se, but it's not about anyone else, but them and their coping mechanism. And it's not a add that to the fact that it's not a detrimental, bad way to cope. Everyone copes differently. It's not like it's destructive. He's not being, it's a healthy coping mechanism that he's implementing. So I'm glad she had that little reality check. Because sometimes our loved ones set the thoughts out of our ass and don't give us the honest truth.

SPEAKER_04

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_01

I had nothing else about Clarence Cameron.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, neither did I.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, Becca and Austin. I am, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Again, we're seeing this kind of like dual double life type situation where on camera he's one person, and off camera he's another person, and the experts come in and they're talking to them about what's been going on, and Becca lets it all out, and she's struggling, she's upset, she's in tears, she's trying to hold herself together, not very well, but and I think even before she says how sensitive she is, obviously, like you can see it. She's a very sensitive person.

SPEAKER_01

You've touched upon that uh in previous episodes. Yeah. How she'll just beat a dead horse because of her own insecurities. I mean her religion. Yes.

SPEAKER_02

And so I I can see and understand more and more every episode about how she could feel that she's a burden on someone because she does need a lot of reassurance. But on the other side, I can get how to a partner who is not equipped to, you know, like I want to say handle, but I feel like that's that's really not a good word. But but a partner who's not equipped to maybe understand her needs, how it can be really overwhelming for that person because not able to understand her needs or to identify that this is how her insecurities manifest. Because she seems to need a lot of reassurance, which might be fine for somebody, but maybe Austin just is not capable or doesn't want to be that person. And she says that when they were in the wolf sanctuary, that she was trying to help him put stuff in bags, and it sparked this conflict. And at one point, something like, Don't like I don't tell me what to do. And that's a thread that I was like, I wish that there had just been a little bit more said about that because you and I have talked about in the past how you've got this guy, Austin, and he's kind of like a big kid. And he's like, you know, he lands wherever the wind blows him. But he surrounds himself with women, so he's he's obviously very comfortable being around women. But I think and you've said, you know, that that might be like a lot of hand holding because they're kind of mothering him. But I wonder if he's looking for that, but these women in his life are kind of substitutes for his mom who can hold his hand and guide him along, but without the benefit of being able to tell him what to do, because he's a grown-up. And it was like, oh, I just I wish that there was a little bit more because I really, really wanted to like pull that string a little. Uh you know, and all in all, but whatever. Same issues, different week. So this time around, they go to this little spa-ish place, which looked absolutely gorgeous. They're in this hot tub overlooking like a mountain. I don't know. It just looked beautiful, and I wish that that was the view out of my backyard. But hot tub included mountains, like you you can barely see cars in the distance. So, and they have a talk, and it's like every episode, it just feels like okay, they're they're good, like they're working it out, and and the episode is gonna end, you know, whatever. The cameras are gonna go off for the night, and and they're gonna, and then we get to the next episode, and it's like deja vu. It's like groundhog day, you know? Seen that movie? Uh I don't know. I I just think that their lack of compatibility is not because they don't want each other, it's because their pieces are not fitting. Fitting. They need different things and they give different things. But we'll see, right? Whatever.

SPEAKER_01

I regardless of all the crap I talk about, Austin, I do like Becca. I like Austin as people. This episode, I'm starting to see a little bit more of Austin's frustration because living with, or being with, I don't know where to start. On one hand, he made a comment about them having the same conversations over and over again. And I can see her point. Well, yeah, I want to keep having the conversations because nothing is changing. So I can see how you're like, I need to have the conversation over and over again. But there needs to come a point. Right. There needs to be a point where you're like, you know what? Conversations, there's no change. You need to decide either, A, I can live with this the way it is, and if you can, shut up about it. And if you can't, it may be something you need to move on. Maybe. Depending on what that thing is. Having the same conversation can be counterproductive. And with the whole at the Wolf Lodge and the bag, because he went and bought something from the gift shop. I don't remember how it said or who said it. But I think Austin said, well, the ladies will give him a bag, and she's like, no, we just put it in this bag. And he's like, no, this is fine. Sometimes trying to help when it's not needed. And I'm and I got the hint, I got the impression that it wasn't a one-time only, it's just who she is. Yeah. When you always want to help, a little overbearing. No, it's exhausting.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

If you want to like, if it's not needed, sometimes it's just not needed. Or put it in this back, no, it's fine, and then you leave it alone. But the key, sometimes your opinion and your help and your desire to fix something, it's not needed. So I can understand what Austin's like, damn, I like you, babe, but uh, you're exhausting. But to your point, again, they're not bad people. I just think the key doesn't fit into the lock.

SPEAKER_02

And I think that also part of the reason that these little things are escalating is because Becca is not seeing them as separate issues. Becca is compounding all of these things and it as he doesn't want me, he doesn't like me, you know, he's rejecting me. And Austin is just kind of like compounding these issues as, you know, she's like on top of me. And it's like every issue that she brings up and wants to talk about is like another shovel of dirt over him.

SPEAKER_01

Everything is turning to World War III as opposed to the little battles. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. And I think that like, and and I'm not trying to be funny, but I think that like had they started fucking like a week or two ago, these things wouldn't be an issue anymore. He wouldn't have cared. Um, he probably wouldn't have cared so much about her putting it in the bag, or like she wouldn't oppress the issue. Like, I think that she is still trying to pull out a connection in any sh way, shape, or form that she can. Because she wants to be needed, she wants him to lean on her, she wants to feel that connection to him, and this is not the way he's looking for a connection.

SPEAKER_03

Right. Okay, so our next couple is Emily and Brennan.

SPEAKER_02

Again, with the trauma, but Emily's recuperating. It looks like Brennan is picking up the slack around the apartment, bringing, you know, getting her food, cleaning up. I think Emily had a little bit too much fun while he was cleaning up though, because she was like, Those dishes are annoying me. Can you make sure you get and then he's like mopping, and she's like, Oh, could you get under the table? And I feel like if I was Emily, I'd I'd be having a little fun too at this point. It's a little bit of uh the shit that he's put her through. And he's taking her to appointments, looking, right? As as we are looking in on them, it looks like he's really, really doing a good job taking care of her and helping her, like just allowing her to focus on healing. But I also feel like Brennan is the type of guy who thrives when he is seen or feels like he's driving the ship. And since she is hurt and she cannot do things, I think this is kind of bolstering his self sense, whatever you want to call it, and now he's needed. So now he is into it again. Like you know, maybe not fully, but like, but he's a little bit more into the relationship now because she has to lean on him. Yeah. I I don't know, I guess you know, things like this can bond couples and and definitely make a relationship stronger. I just feel like in this situation it's it's temporary. And once she is fully healed and fully back to being an independent self um uh like confident Emily, then he is not going to his feelings are not gonna remain the same. They're gonna slide back down again and he's gonna pull away. I don't think he can handle being with a strong female partner.

SPEAKER_03

I'm gonna take what you said and up the ante, because it's pretty much the same thing.

SPEAKER_01

I think doing her healing process, she's also not because she's not because she's not that she's not independent or she's still she's focusing on her and her recovery, so she's not giving him any of the pushbacks, like, this is what I need from you, this is what I'm not, this is what I don't need from you. And he likes that to your point.

SPEAKER_02

Like, oh absolutely that's a good thing.

SPEAKER_01

In his head, oh, everything's perfect because she's not saying anything. Our relationship is great because she doesn't have an opinion on our relationship. You know what I mean? Yeah, it's it's like right.

SPEAKER_02

I've just yeah, it's just like it's all about a relationship with my dog. I say sit, she sits, it's great, you know? Right, and that's what he wants.

SPEAKER_01

You said hold on.

SPEAKER_02

No, I said most times.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, most times.

SPEAKER_02

I say sit, and she looks at me like no.

SPEAKER_01

No, unless you got a treat, bitch. Can I get a treat? For example, when he he said that she was not, she wasn't positive. She wasn't she was being negative. She was giving her her giving him her feelings, and his head not agreeing with me is being negative. So this, she's obviously she's to your point, once she's not focused on her healing and she's going back to the issues at hand, he's just like done. It gives me it smells very handmaid's tale ish to me.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Commander Brennan. I could see that. He would he would never be a commander. He would be one of the um, he'd be a driver and and trying forever to work his. Way up to Commander. But I don't really oh, and this the thing when they're like sitting at the counter, they're eating spaghetti, and they're like, Oh, yeah, this is this has really been good for us. Like, who knew all we had was a tree, but every time they cut to Brennan, it's like he's got a fork full of spaghetti, and then in the next scene, he's got no spaghetti on his fork, and then the next scene he's got another fork full of spaghetti. And it's like, there's not that much spaghetti on his plate. Also, that does not look like good spaghetti. It's like just orange. There's no sauce on it. What are you doing?

SPEAKER_01

He's I can I can tell he's a type that like so he probably would like to spoon his sauce on each bite. So it's not too much sauce.

SPEAKER_02

The only time your spaghetti should look orange like that is if it's coming out of a pot of like boy gisel. Otherwise, it should be covered. You wish you had some right now. That would that would help you. You'd feel all better.

SPEAKER_01

I would feel so much better. Oh god, I hate you right now.

SPEAKER_02

Now I want some. I shouldn't have some. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

You suck. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

If I had thought uh ahead, I would have made some and I could bring it back.

SPEAKER_01

I'm glad you did it because you're probably eating it in front of me.

SPEAKER_03

And I would be ending this recording.

SPEAKER_02

Maybe. Anything else?

SPEAKER_03

I'll be over.

SPEAKER_02

No, that was it.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. So our next couple, um, since there's no Lauren and Orion, we're gonna talk about Michael and Chloe.

SPEAKER_04

She oh, okay.

SPEAKER_02

The episode title is In Sickness and Suspicion. And uh, I think the sickness refers probably to Emily, and maybe a little bit to Cameron. But I think the suspicion part, they're trying to be like, you know, because the the previews before the episode comes on, it's like it makes it look like all hell is about to break loose, and you know, the marriage is about to fall apart. In reality, she says that, you know, this has been a lot. She's an introvert, and she just wants to go back to her apartment to kind of process and regroup. And you know, Michael is kind of like, I don't know if this is a good sign or a bad sign, but like, if that's what she feels she needs, then that's what she gets. He brought his dog over, then she went to go spend time with her dogs. She has a um like a dinner or a lunch or whatever you call it with her friend, and she tells him uh Caesar, and she tells him about how she took that little break, and he's kind of like, ooh, you know, like, but why? But she's like, Yeah, but he's perfect, like and he's like, Yeah, but like, is he perfect, or is he just really good at telling you what you want to hear? Which is what we've been saying too. And she's like, Yeah, I keep thinking that, but like he hasn't shown it. You can't find anything wrong, right?

SPEAKER_01

He hasn't proved it, right?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, so you know, she's like, I'll keep looking for it, you know, but it's not there.

SPEAKER_01

And that's a very tight rope to walk where you you want to appreciate what you're having and enjoy the moment, but you still need to be on the lookout for the red flags. Yeah. And I think they're doing well. Yeah. Walking that typerope. Right.

SPEAKER_02

It's it's definitely a common situation. Right. You know, and especially at the beginning of a relationship, but the stakes are so much higher because they're complete strangers, but they're married, and now they're cohabitating. So it's it's a lot. There's a lot on the line, there's a lot of things to process. And I I it's like I kind of want to commend her for having the self-awareness and the courage almost to say not just to recognize what you need for yourself, but to say it to the stranger, having no clue how they may react to it. And it could, you know, for some people, it's like no big deal, but for some people, that's a really big ask. And Michael said, okay, and and then he was like, you know what? I'm just gonna take a page out of her book and I'm I'm gonna do the same thing. And they came back together, they brought all their animals, and I'm like, holy cow, they have a house full of animals. Is there a spot for me there?

SPEAKER_01

I thought about you too. I'm like, oh, this is uh this is Allie.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, all the dogs and the cats, and they all got along, which is amazing because how did they all get along so quickly?

SPEAKER_03

But it was meant to be.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and they have this 90s party. And can I also say her? So she has two friends come in, a male and a female. He has two friends come in, a male and a female. Why do the two females look alike?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I was confused for a hot second.

SPEAKER_02

I was so confused, and I was like, wait, no, that's her friend. Wait, huh? Oh, wait, okay, this one has the high ponytail and she has the rainbow. Like, I had to look at what, yeah, because I'm like, what the fuck? Because one of them was like, well, she's, you know, like thou protest too much. She's talking about the the time that they took away from each other, and it's like, why are you to, you know, why are you keep like beating a dead horse about it, whatever? And then I was like, I thought that was her friend, and then it was his friend, and then I was just like, oh my god, I'm exhausted. But then they're like, no, this is what he's gonna need, and this is what you're gonna need to do. And and I I was a little wary because it turns out like she was the one who made the comment. But I think overall, because those are his friends, they will want the best for their friends and are not leading her down a bad path.

SPEAKER_01

Right. Like this is what it is, this is the truth. This is what he needs. Know now or forever hold your pee. Like this is Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

But they seem and you know, like they're so cute. And he's like, he gets pizza with a cause, and he's like, all right, but you know, keep your hands off of me. You know, try to keep your hands to yourself. And she's like, Oh, something about the tequila. He's like, he's like God's.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. I love them as they're adorable. They're great. I love like they're like I could be friends with either one of them because they seem like really, really good people. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Um, let me check my notes. But yeah, I don't have anything else.

SPEAKER_01

Neither me. Anything you want to see for next week?

SPEAKER_02

I I guess I want to see if I don't, I mean, I don't know like if next week is um like I have no idea. There's 700 episodes, so next week might be like an hour from now. I have no idea. I would like to see Becca and Austin finally like get naked to get, you know, like with each other. Mm-hmm. I would like to- It's fine that you have to add that. But you know what I mean. Again, I want I want like I want them to get busy. I mean, if they want us to watch, it's fine, I'll watch. But, you know, for them. And I want Emily to and I know it's gonna take a couple of weeks, and obviously, like the show is not moving that fast. It's not a sitcom where it's like the next week is, you know, two two weeks later or whatever.

SPEAKER_01

No, this is like soap opera slow. Exactly.

SPEAKER_02

But I I would like to see Emily get a little bit more back to 100% Emily and see how it affects Brennan. Uh-huh. And I don't know, I would like to get a check-in with Lauren. But I guess I guess that's it.

SPEAKER_03

You know, not nothing crazy, just you know, what what are they up to now? Okay. Yep, that's all I got.

SPEAKER_01

So next week, episode 19, sex, lies, and questionable questionable behavior. That sounds like it's up your alley.

SPEAKER_02

I mean it does, but really, all the episodes can sound like they're up my alley, like in sickness and suspicion. But where was the suspicion? What the fuck? Like, there it was that one little blurb of Michael saying, Oh, is this like, is this a bad sign? Should I be worried? It was one sentence.

SPEAKER_01

It's I don't know 100% sure that this isn't definitely gonna be the exact opposite of what the title's gonna be.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, like I'm not gonna, you know, the title all lies.

SPEAKER_01

Right. It's gonna be no sex, no lies, and no drama. I feel like you'd be like, wait.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. But that's how it is with this show. So I just, you know, we're here, we're in, we'll watch it, we'll discuss it, and I'll see what threads I can find in there to pull at.

SPEAKER_01

You find threads. I do. Like you put you do, you find threads. Uh, that's it for this episode.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. This is assassinsips.com for all the ways. Thank you for being here on the subscription feed. Don't drink and drive, drink responsibly. And until next time, I'm Lisa. And I'm Agnes. And we're out of here.

SPEAKER_01

See you later. Bye.
