Hi, and welcome to today's episode of Sassin Sips. Today we are going to talk about Lost Season 5, Episode 2, The Lie. I am Lisa.
SPEAKER_05And I'm Agnes.
SPEAKER_01And today I am drinking coffee with Kalua. So am I. With twins. I knew it.
SPEAKER_05I'm so glad I could be a positive. Um, whatever to you, whatever.
SPEAKER_01Influence.
SPEAKER_05That's the word.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. You were talking about it, and I was like, oh, what a nice change from peanut butter whiskey. I'm gonna surprise her. Woohoo! Twinsies, cheers.
SPEAKER_05Twinsies, cheers. That's what my grandson does. He's like, yeah, yeah, let's cheers. So she he cheers his cup of water, and I cheers my Starbucks. We are not paid sponsors.
SPEAKER_01I wish we were.
SPEAKER_05We really should be. I'm there every day. And I always do the mobile order. And they do their spiel, you know, welcome to Starbucks, whatever they say. Yeah. And I was like, good morning, how are you? And they're like, Hi, Agnes. I was like, okay, this is a problem. I think.
SPEAKER_01Well, it's also because you start every interaction with hi, sweetheart. And so it's like, yeah, they already know it's you. Because probably nobody else is that nice.
SPEAKER_05Go figure. The New Yorker is nicer than most of the Midwesterns that live here. The irony is not lost on me. Like they say, New Yorkers are kind but not nice.
SPEAKER_01It's that's true. That is true.
SPEAKER_05Very much so.
SPEAKER_01We will help a motherfucker out and keep it moving.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, don't say don't say thank you. Don't smile at me. Just keep it like no conversation.
SPEAKER_01Just go about your business and we're good. And these people here were we good.
SPEAKER_05You good? You good. You good? I love the way that you good can mean a plethora of things. And the people here would sit there and talk to you about anything and everything. You know about their cousin's neighbor's sister. And meanwhile, I'm like, I just wanted to buy milk. Like, but asking for to like actually do customer service and help solve a problem, they're like, uh well, I think that's regional because uh read um what I don't know what the word is, but because that shit happens over here too.
SPEAKER_01Like, I don't know, I don't know. That's the way it ringing up. I don't know. You know as much as I do. I don't know. All right, go see.
SPEAKER_05Okay, I gotta say, my for the most part, I really don't get any issues with like coupons in the stores, like you know, like something doesn't ring up, or they're like, okay, let's figure it out, or what or and if they can't do it, at least they'll tell me, Oh, this is not working because of X, Y, and Z. And I'm like, oh, cool, thanks. I usually don't have any issues with people not giving a fuck.
SPEAKER_01Over here, it really just depends, I think, on the person. But I've come across all too many people who are like, I don't know.
SPEAKER_05Is that a regional thing or is it a generational thing?
SPEAKER_01I don't know, but I will say this there is a person that on more than one occasion who is an older woman. And when I say older, I just mean she's older than me. So I would guess that she's probably in her late 40s, maybe 50s. And she works at a store that is a pharmacy kind of chain. I don't want to say the name. Yeah, because I know what you're telling.
SPEAKER_05I know you're gonna go with this.
SPEAKER_01You and I have been to this place together. Yes, we have. Um and on more than one occasion, it's just like, I don't know. And literally, I went to the pharmacy to pick up medication with a few little things like I don't know what I was buying, maybe like shampoo or lotion, whatever, like a couple of things. And this lady legit was like, you can pay for that at the register. Like a register, but I'm here now paying for picking up my medication and paying for my medication. What do you mean I can go to the front? She was like, Yeah, you can go to the front and pay for it. I'm like, um you know what?
SPEAKER_05Well, how about I leave this shit here and go fuck yourself?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like I I really wanted to curse her out, but I'm like, you know what? Today's not gonna be the day I'm gonna get into a fight. And I walked away. On another occasion, she's given me the whole shit about the coupons. And she so she was like, you know as much as I do.
SPEAKER_05All right, therein lies the problem, right?
SPEAKER_01So I didn't purchase what it was, it was supposed to be like, oh, if you buy two of something, you get the benefit of the coupon. So I was like, all right, well, then I just need one. I only bought, I was only gonna buy two because of the coupon. So when I didn't take the second one, as I'm going to leave, she pushes it. It was a toothpaste, she pushes it towards me, like as in here, and I was like, no, I'm not buying it. She was like, here, so you could put it back.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_01So wait, I I took it. I was like, okay, I took it and I turned around to walk out, and I sat it right there on the wrong shelf. I was like, okay, bye. I don't work and work here. Like, you know what?
SPEAKER_05No, at that point, at that point, you're not, yeah, I'm not you're not getting shit from me. There were times where I would grab the wrong thing or I need to switch something out, and I'll like I'll bring, I'll put it back myself. This situation, you're like, yeah, no, you get paid to work here. I don't. I pay like I'm not giving you money to do for you to piss me off and then to do, yeah, go fuck yourself.
SPEAKER_01Sorry, I guess I missed that day when I was at training for my job.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah, that wasn't, yeah. I'm damn I didn't get paid for that day.
SPEAKER_01So I try to avoid her because she is just I don't know, she's just not good at her job. I don't know, maybe she has a miserable life. I don't know what her issue is, but she is not helpful.
SPEAKER_05You are not the one, two, or three.
SPEAKER_01And I am not an asshole when I go into places. I'm very nice to people because let's be honest, that's how you get what you want.
SPEAKER_05But once you start with me, I'm gonna smile and hurt your feelings and make you question your very being.
SPEAKER_01Like, okay, uh sure, I'll put the toothpaste back. Here, there it is with the Benadryl. Have a good time. Because now you gotta walk to go and get it to put it back. Oh, okay. Bye, bitch. Like, I mean, and it's so stupid, right?
SPEAKER_05And guess what, talking about you, Karen? Yes, I said Karen. And it was probably Karen too.
SPEAKER_01Like, literally at this at this same store, like name, not this location where I used to live. I was in there all the time because I had one right across the street from me. And same kind of thing. I was at the pharmacy, I was waiting to pick up my like allergy medication, and the person, the man in front of me, was being just a complete asshole to the workers. Like, just a complete asshole. He was yelling at them and he was like, like, you know, just insulting them. And the far the pharmacist, the guy was always so sweet. Like, I had been using that store for 10 years, you know. Like, matter of fact, one of the employees, his second job was where I worked also for a time. We worked in different departments, but he all and so like it was one day we were like, wait a minute, you're here, you're oh like I didn't know you worked here, like you know, because we ran into each other at where we both worked in the day job. Like, you know, everyone's just always so nice there, and so anyway, the guy was giving them a hard time, and finally he was just like, Oh, you could you can help the next person, and he turned around and I was the next person, and I'm just like watching the whole interaction, and I'm like, and then you know, sometimes like my mouth just before I think, you lease like you could go ahead. I was like, You sure you're done? And he just looked at me and he was like, What? I was like, like, you sure you don't want to insult them more? And he was like, What are you talking about? I was like, I'm standing here watching you act like a complete jerk to the people who are trying to help you. Are you done? Or do you do you need more time before I go ahead? This guy got so fucking pissed off. He was like, I'm gonna call my wife, okay? Okay, he was like, I'm gonna call my wife, and she's gonna come over here and kick your ass. Are you serious? How old is he? Like five? Yo, he had to be like 50, okay? So he gets on the phone and he's talking to her, and he's like he's he's bitching to her about me in Spanish. And he's just like cursing me and bitching at me, bitching about me to her. And the the guy who works there, he's like looking at me, and I was like, Hi, I'm sorry. I was like, I'm just picking up and he was like, You okay? I was like, I'm okay, are you okay?
SPEAKER_05He was like, You're the one that got berated by a customer.
SPEAKER_01I'm good, and he was like, okay, and he's just like, he didn't know what to do with the situation because I'm over here like ignoring the man who's standing three feet away from me, talking shit. Come on, wait for you, come on, come on, these people like me, buddy. Like, they don't like you. I'm good.
SPEAKER_05Like, because when the camera shows everything that popped up on here, go ahead.
SPEAKER_01So, anyway, I got I got my shit, and I ended up having an issue also with one of my things, like with insurance or whatever. Right. So I was like, all right, don't even worry about it. I'll pick it up tomorrow. I'll just take like this one, you know. So he was like, okay. So then the next day when I came back, the guy was like, that guy was such an asshole. I was like, yeah, he was like, thank you though. I was like, for what? He was like, just he's like, you could say shit like we can. I was like, well, the guy was being an asshole. Like I what else am I supposed to do?
SPEAKER_05That is my goal in life. Because when I worked in retail, I've had plenty of customers tell off the Karen's and tell off the customers, and I'm just like, yes. So that my goal is life is to be that customer, right?
SPEAKER_01That's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_05To stand up for the employees.
SPEAKER_01Like, I know you can't say it.
SPEAKER_05Like, I know I sure as fuck can't.
SPEAKER_01But anybody's stopping me. So I was like, Where's your wife, buddy? I was like, Did he ever come back with his wife?
SPEAKER_05He was like, No, his wife probably cursed him out. Like, oh you dumb fuck, cabron.
SPEAKER_01Like, you legit getting mad about I don't even remember. It was like the insurance wasn't gonna pay, or the prescription wasn't ready, or the doctor didn't call it in. It was whatever.
SPEAKER_05Nothing to do with the pharmacist.
SPEAKER_01It exactly, it had nothing to do with the pharmacist, and they were like, We can call, and he and and he was just like, no, like he just anything that they try to offer him in order to help progress his you know, his um prescription or whatever, he was just like no, and he just wanted to like yell at them, like they're trying to help you. They're they're not saying like no, we don't want to fill it.
SPEAKER_05Which I what and and at this should be at that point, like, yeah, no, you know what? You could take your prescription and transfer to another location.
SPEAKER_01Bye, yeah, but anyway, so I think it just depends on who you get because some people are absolute great people like customer service, and some people are some people just subs. They belong to they belong at the DMV or TSA.
SPEAKER_05They need a bag of dicks. That's when you like here, take go fuck. Here's a bag of dicks because either way, you need a bag of dicks, you figure it out.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, anyway, anyhow. You got any hot takes besides what you text me?
SPEAKER_05I you lie, you made me think that I was going to enjoy the rest of the show, and this season, I'm this is episode two, season five, and I'm like, this is gonna be a complete mindfuck, and I'm gonna hate it. Like, it's it's gonna it's gonna be different than the first two seasons, mind fucked, but it's still gonna be a mind fuck where I'll be like, yeah, fuck you. I need a whole bottle of wine per recording because you got me a little bit screwed up over here, just a little bit. I'm quitting. Um I quit.
SPEAKER_01In fairness, I will say this the first couple of episodes are a little wonky because you don't know where the puzzle pieces fit, but once you get a little bit more context, it's going to be way more interesting. And it is a doozy. I mean, it is. Okay, but but once you know more or less how to arrange the pieces, you ever do a puzzle, and you're like, oh, you know, you put you put the the edges right, yeah, and then you're like, okay, well, this is part of the tree, so we know it goes like in this corner, and this is the boat, like where the the water is in the boats or whatever, so you put it like in that corner.
SPEAKER_05Okay, but I have a feeling once this puzzle's together, I'm gonna look at the picture and be like, what the fuck is this?
SPEAKER_01Maybe. But my point is just that once you start realizing what the pieces kind of correspond to, like, you know, like okay, well, this is part of the trees, this is part of the water, this is part of the house.
SPEAKER_05Like, I can't I get the whole puzzle pieces, I get that, but I have but watching this episode, I already knew that the finished piece is gonna be a hot shit.
SPEAKER_01Maybe mind fuck.
SPEAKER_05That's maybe, and that's what I'm not looking forward to. I'm like, what the fuck? Puzzle pieces, I don't mind. It's the outcome. I'm like, this is gonna be a mind fuck. This is gonna be like a fucking smoke monsters and polar bears in the desert again.
SPEAKER_01Eh, not so much. A little bit, as far as a lot of it. No, no, no. I'm just I'm just a little bit live.
SPEAKER_05I think as far as what the fuck did they where did this come from? This is definitely not the same show it was season one. Nope. Totally different show.
SPEAKER_01Well, it's so funny, right? Because season one, it's all we gotta get off the island, we gotta get home, we gotta, and now it's all like we gotta go back to the island. How do we go back?
SPEAKER_05I mean, that in itself, but just like it seems like this totally different writers, it seems like it's a totally different, it's it just it doesn't seem like the same show. It just it seems like it seems like some it's okay. You know how you have um producers or writers that start a show and then that show ends and they do another show and it has a lot of the same characters, but obviously it's a different TV show. This is what this feels like, but it's still the same show, I feel like okay.
SPEAKER_01I well, I think that the difference is that you don't have to be a good one.
SPEAKER_05Got it.
SPEAKER_01What I was gonna say is that um I'm sliding away, okay, is that when the show first began, I think that they had no idea where it was gonna go. And now that there's a finite end date, they know how many episodes they have in order to wrap things up, and so they're trying to just get to that goal. A little bit more so than just throw spaghetti at the wall and see what sticks and where the story can go from here. It's more like we have to figure out how to get the story from here to there.
SPEAKER_05So I can see them now. Like, hey, I have a great idea for a pilot. And it they're like, okay, tell us about it. Okay, so a plane crashes and they end up in an island. Okay, tell me more. Well, that's it. We haven't figured out the rest yet. Like, that's what I feel like. That's and then and then some crazy shit happens. Okay. What crazy shit? We don't know yet. We haven't figured that out yet. Well, let's do that. We don't know yet.
SPEAKER_01What we're thinking, monsters, polar bears, drug runners, and magical healing properties. Oh, and throw in some electromagnetism and time travel. Awesome. Sounds like you got a plan.
SPEAKER_05You don't even get that to season four.
SPEAKER_01Like season one was just little, literally, and then you no, no. But episode two, I see it too. You just don't know you got it.
SPEAKER_05Okay, good point. But okay, and that's why I don't think they knew that what they were doing until later on. They're like, let's throw this in here. We'll explain the reason why later.
SPEAKER_01Well, remember, they they gave you some of the um there was the scene with the radio station, and then remember they teased and they were like, Oh, we don't know where it's from, and they're like, Oh, from when. So they they teased it a little.
SPEAKER_05I don't I think that was an accidental slip that that happened. It was like a tongue-in-cheek. I think it was a tongue-in-cheek comment, and they're like, Oh shit, this works. Oh, yeah, we did say that, didn't we? Yes, we meant to say that. Yes, that was planned. No, it was not. Um, right. But it might have, to be fair, it may have been, they may have an idea, but this is uh I'm still going to theory, they're taking different drugs now. That's why it's a different show. Either way, then I need to, I need what they have, what they took, so I can like become well with the show. All I have is wine though. Lots and lots and lots of wine. I ain't telling, I'm gonna tell all our listeners be prepared for each episode to downgrade throughout from the beginning of the episode to the end of the episode. Less coherence, more sloring.
SPEAKER_01We're gonna have to up your wine intake going forward.
SPEAKER_05I need I'm gonna need two bottles of rind per recording per episode. Thank you.
SPEAKER_01You ready to go?
SPEAKER_05The grocery store loves me.
SPEAKER_01I bet.
SPEAKER_05Yes, we sell liquor in the grocery store, and not just a little bit, like there's a whole I don't there's not that many liquor stores. I mean, they we have liquor stores, but for the most part, the grocery store sells as much than any liquor store.
SPEAKER_01It's that middle of America shit.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, balance and liquor.
SPEAKER_01They do that stuff, but like like not here.
SPEAKER_05I think honestly, also it has to do like space-wise. Like they have the land, like the space to have bigger stores where they can put liquor stores in the grocery stores, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_01I mean, there's plenty of places in New Jersey where they have plenty of space in the store. It's also not acceptable thing, but they can't do it. It's still it's a law. They can't do it. It's a little bit illegal. That's what I said. A lot of places no, but could you I mean, could you imagine if they if they could actually cut out the the food, the the food, right? Just the liquor and they'd make twice as much money.
SPEAKER_05We got yeah, I got we got guns and liquor, so I mean it's not so bad living out here. I mean, I'm happy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, unless you're the one on the bad end of that combination.
SPEAKER_05I mean, I've been in worst situations in New York. So I mean Okay. And then at least here, everyone has a everyone has a gun here. Everybody. So you really don't know what you're walking in. I mean, only people that like for the most the normal people, everyone has a gun. So like I'm not gonna go crazy because you don't know what the other person has. You know, for the most part, you know, and then you have people like me who was just like, um, if I have to use it, I really don't give a fuck if you're in trouble. But I would never just use it all willy-nilly. I'm a good girl. Really, I am.
SPEAKER_01I know. You're not in jail yet.
SPEAKER_05No, because I haven't got caught. No, but honestly, the the fact it was so easy, and listen, I'm a law-abiding citizen, I don't have any medical issues that prohibit me for owning a weapon, but the fact that it was so easy bothers the fuck out of me to this day. Really bothers me that it was so easy. But that's that. Let's talk about lost because we've gotten lost for the last like 10 minutes. We forgot what we're talking about, but like maybe like the last. 20 minutes, maybe.
SPEAKER_01Maybe. Okay. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Welcome to Lost Tangent.
SPEAKER_01In a quote unquote flashback, we're going back to January 3rd of 2005. On Penny's boat, the searcher, the Oceanic Six, Penny, Desmond, and Frank discuss what to tell the world when they return to the mainland. Hurley doesn't want them to lie. Said worries that it's risky. He acknowledges that it's gonna affect the rest of their lives, but ultimately Jack is like, no, we must do this. And reluctantly, they all agree. Except Hurley, but then he finally agrees to. And Penny's like, because that's impossible. I kind of chuckled at this because I was like, yeah, call off my mom.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, that's funny. You guys you guys are funny.
SPEAKER_01Curly tells Saeed, because Said he like he really is trying with Saeed to tell him, like, dude, like, if if we all say it, like, they'll believe us, you know, you gotta help me. And Saeed's like, mmm, yeah, but no, we're gonna lie. And Hurley's like, okay, well, one day you're gonna need help, and I'm not gonna help you. And then the scene cuts to Hurley helping Saeed. We're in 2007, and Hurley is driving around with Saeed in the car who's unconscious. This is after the whole safe house thing. Hurley still has the ketchup stain, which everyone thinks it's blood. And as he's driving, he crashes into a garbage can and then gets the lights and sirens behind him. And then the cop pulls him over. It's like as you didn't, as if you almost didn't see that coming.
SPEAKER_05I knew something was gonna happen. Like I knew it wasn't just I didn't know what what I saw was not what I expect. I didn't know what I expect.
SPEAKER_01I'm like, mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_05This is not gonna be something simple, like a normal TV show.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and I wasn't disappointed. And I feel like you could tell by the way she walks that it was her. She's got, you know, her movements are pretty distinct.
SPEAKER_05In case anyone has forgotten season was what season was she on? Season one, season two, two, which is like we recorded like 20 years ago. Totally got a girl crush on her. Totally girl crushing on her. And I just saw Bass Ferous 10, 101. And obviously, you know, people are getting older. I'm like, yeah, I still hit that. I mean, she's younger than I am, so there's that. But I'm like, yeah, you're still looking good. I don't think she's that much younger than us. Really? I actually feel good now. I feel kind of like I have a chance.
SPEAKER_01Hey Siri, how old is Michelle Rodriguez?
SPEAKER_02Michelle Rodriguez is 45 years old.
SPEAKER_01She's older than us.
SPEAKER_00Well, maybe, but not by much. No. Yes, I got a chance. She was born in 78.
SPEAKER_05Oh, so she's gonna be 46 this year, and we'll be 45. Yes, there's a chance. I got a chance. Maybe she wasn't wrong. Maybe we all a little bit.
SPEAKER_01I think I think you just gotta find the the right consents of the bottle.
SPEAKER_05I you know what? And that's the bottle I would definitely drink out of. I don't know. And Priyanka Chopper. Okay. I would totally be Priyanka and Nick's girlfriend. I don't care. I'll be a thruples with those two.
SPEAKER_00Nick Jonas. Oh, that Nick. Okay.
unknownOkay. Okay.
SPEAKER_01So I'm trying to find my place. Hold on. Sorry. Hurley opens the window and realizes that it's Anna Lucia. She scolds him for pulling over and driving like a maniac. She asks Hurley what he would have done if she had been real, especially with pictures on the news showing him covered in blood with a gun in his hand. And he's like, But it's ketchup.
unknownIt's ketchup.
SPEAKER_05That would totally be me. Like, yeah, blood. No, it's it's ketchup or barbecue sauce or something food related. Because it always ends up on my chest.
SPEAKER_01So she instructs him to get different clothes and to take Saeed to someone that he trusts. And then she's like, stay away from the cops, don't get arrested. And then before she leaves, she's like, Oh, and by the way, Libby says hi.
SPEAKER_05And he's like, Oh, okay, cool. I would have been like, okay. Like he handles his his, I guess he's just used to it, but he really handles his seeing dead people. Cool.
SPEAKER_01He handles that better than dealing with real people. Yeah. Well, and then as she walks away, he's he looks behind, and there's no cop car, there's no Anna Lucia, you know, so it's all just his hurley imagination.
SPEAKER_05And he's just like, all right, cool. Let's see what she says. Thank you.
SPEAKER_01So later he's trying to revive Said, but he can't. So he takes some cash and he leaves Saeed in the car. He goes into a gas station so he could buy some new clothes. The girl at the register is like, I know you. While the report is playing on the TV behind her, and he's like, uh no, you don't. And she's like, Yeah, I do. And he's like, uh, no, you don't. But then she's like, Oh, you're the guy who won the lottery. Why don't you buy a ticket here? You're good luck. And he's like, no, no, wrong guy. Here, keep the change by. And he runs out.
SPEAKER_05Um, not suspicious.
SPEAKER_01I know, I know. As he's leaving the gas station, we see another car pull in, and it happens to be Kate. Now, is it just me? Or am I the only one who is pissed off at the fact that the car pulls into a gas station and stops right there? And I'm like, I know that's so fucking petty because it's a TV show and obviously it's not real. But this happens in real life where people It does. Like, you you legit stop right there, you turned off your car.
SPEAKER_05Um, the line of people behind you still have to exist. Um, like me pulling out of the drive-thru, and I can't because the person in front of me decided just to stay where they were at to organize their order. Like, bitch, there are people behind you that need to go.
SPEAKER_01Right. Or when people double park at the very end or the very like beginning of a block, and then you return, and you're like, how fucking like ignorant are you? Like, do you can you have a little bit of self-awareness? No, no, don't get me started on self-awareness, okay?
SPEAKER_05Don't get me started on a lot of shit. This is that's a that's a sub that's actually a separate, that's a separate show.
SPEAKER_01It's about to be, yeah. But anyway, she pulls out her phone and she's like, should she call Jack? Shouldn't she call Jack? She doesn't call Jack. Then her phone rings, but it's an unknown caller, and she sets up a meeting. She's like, I know exactly where that is. I'll be there in a half hour.
SPEAKER_05But she has a smile, like a like a smile of comfort, like a friend. Like the way she said friend. I was like, okay. And I know Desmond was I forgot where he said he was going, but he and Penny were on their way. They were leaving the little oasis. Oxford, that's right, the seat to find Daniel's mom. I'm like, is it Desmond? And then I forgot the obvious choice.
SPEAKER_01I um I couldn't remember who it was, like, you know, for me watching, I couldn't remember who it was that called you, but I thought it was somebody else at first. But I'm not gonna tell you who who I thought it was.
SPEAKER_05Because we have to finish the episode, we need to be finished recording.
SPEAKER_01Um, sure, that's the reason.
SPEAKER_05For a second, I thought maybe it was Locke, but I said, no, this is the wrong time frame. Locke had already came to see her, I think. Like Locke had already did what he had to do and then died at this point. Because a lot of back and forth that you kind of like it's a little tail spinny, dizzy thing going on because you're trying to figure out like 2005, like off island, on island, slash. Right, and this is and this is like 2007. Right.
SPEAKER_01I mean, it helps some of the scenes are helpful, like with hers, you can see Aaron.
SPEAKER_05Right.
SPEAKER_01So that helps give a little bit of context to when.
SPEAKER_05It's actually it's just a moment of how to remember, like, where the hell am I going? Right. It's like waking up from a deep sleep, and you're like, where am I? But it's throughout the entire episode.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_05Every scene.
SPEAKER_01Kate and Aaron go to a penthouse, and turns out they're meeting Son. Son shows a picture to Kate of G-Youn, and she says that she'd like them, um, she'd like the two kids, Aaron and G-Yun, to play together.
SPEAKER_03She was such a cute baby. But what's that the picture's gorgeous?
SPEAKER_01So the weird thing though is that I feel like I don't know if this was on purpose or but when Sun was about to confront Charles Whidmore, she's talking to Gian on the phone. Then when Sun is flying to Los Angeles, that's when Charles Whidmore confronts her. Now we're in Los Angeles, and then she's showing a baby picture.
SPEAKER_05Well, she did say this is an old baby picture.
SPEAKER_01But right, so then you're like, you know, it I feel like was it done just to con to kind of fuck with you a little bit more? Because the clues were there. But like not for nothing though. Don't you have a picture that's more recent of your kid? Even when it was just like before camera phones. I feel like you still have something better than a picture that's might be like two years old.
SPEAKER_05Okay, I didn't. I didn't carry around. I took I had tons of pictures of Krista growing up, and I had the photo albums, but I didn't carry them with me.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_05And I have like the picture, like you know, you're a first-time mom, you have like that baby picture, you throw it in your wallet that you keep, and you just never take it out because that's just it becomes part of your wallet. Do you replace it? And I never replaced it.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_05That was always just the picture in my wallet.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Or whatever, you know.
SPEAKER_01Anyway.
SPEAKER_05I'm just a or maybe I'm just a horrible mother. No, but I didn't think I did take tons of pictures, and I they're all in the photo albums. I had them, I said shitload of photo albums. So I think when you're taking pictures, and you're one, you're taking them all the time. Two, you're looking at your kid. You don't think about placing the picture in your wallet. And she had to go through a couple of places to find that picture. I don't know if you noticed it. She went through one thing and then she went through another wallet. Like that wasn't the what she found, that wasn't the first thing she looked at. Okay. Um helped horrible mothers.
SPEAKER_01Well, you know, all the mothers in this show are supposed to be kind of horrible. So maybe, maybe that's a play on that.
SPEAKER_05But I feel like the mothers, the new mothers, the Claire's, the Kates.
SPEAKER_01And where's and where's Claire?
SPEAKER_05Well, I think she died personally. I think she's just dead. So, but like they broke the cycle of horrible parents.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_05Because, you know, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Kate is telling Son about the lawyer who came to visit her, you know, and wanted to test her son. And Son is like, they're not interested in exposing the lie, they just wanted Aaron. And Sun tells Kate that she needs to do whatever she must do to take care of Aaron. And then she kind of throws a little shade at Kate because she's like, you know, like when you said on the freighter that you were gonna rescue Jin. And Kate is like, oh son, like, I'm so sorry. Like, you don't think, and then Son is like, no, Kate, like you did what you have to do. I don't blame you. You're like, ooh.
SPEAKER_05But she was still a little cold when she said that. Yeah, I got the chill. I was like, son is not to be played with little badass fucking.
SPEAKER_01I think Son absolutely realizes that if Kate didn't do what she did, they all you know would have succumbed to the explosion. But I think Sun is also like, but I recognize that you also didn't do what you said you did.
SPEAKER_05So you're gonna say you were going to like no both, they're not mutually exclusive.
SPEAKER_01Right, and then she's like, so how's Jack?
SPEAKER_05And the case basis was like, uh, like the rest of us was just like, well, that helps.
SPEAKER_01Do you have a future with Ben? Like those two could take over the world.
SPEAKER_05I would love to see that. Honestly, today, right now, I would vote for Ben Linus for president at this point.
SPEAKER_01Uh yeah. I think I would too. Okay. Side thought. Now, maybe this is an unpopular opinion, right? Because Michael Emerson isn't an unattractive man. That's not the unpopular opinion. Um Benjamin Linus on the island, Ben, head of the others, is not who you look at and think, like, oh, my panties gonna drop. But Ben off the island, with his like, like if that jacket that he put on was a leather jacket, that's the only thing that could have made him a little bit hotter. Because the way he's just it's the personality and the persona that he is just smart, he is capable, he is in charge, he is well spoken, and you're just like, Well, fuck, where are we going? Like, I'm there, right?
SPEAKER_05I was pretty much, um, yeah, and that has a lot, and that goes back to how most, I don't say most, but a lot of women when we say we don't need a man and whatever, we don't um we uh will absolutely not be subservient to anyone, but to find a Benjamin Linus and to be submit to absolutely because you can trust he's gonna lead you out of whatever shit that you that's that's happening. You have trust in his abilities.
SPEAKER_01I mean, I don't know if I want to be in a relationship. I don't know if I trust with Benjamin Linus. No, no, no, no, but but that feeling kick Benjamin Linus out of bed, right?
SPEAKER_05But that that but what turn but but that feeling is what brings it's that same like that that need because he he'll also throw you in front of the bus if it means his safety. So you know there's I didn't mean I trust him as a per I trust his ability to ability, yeah. You have to be able to trust all around for relationship, but be able to trust the man to lead and his ability to lead, whether I trust him to do it for me, but I know, yeah, the ability to lead is a big turn on.
SPEAKER_01That type A I am man, but well, it's it's just the whole I can take control of the situation.
SPEAKER_00Take control of it.
SPEAKER_01That's exactly what it is. It's the confidence and the ability to handle the situation.
SPEAKER_05Okay. As you can tell, I'm just like, yeah, it's it's not just men don't have a lock on it.
SPEAKER_01It's any person who can step up and be a leader and lead with a calm, collected grace that you're like, oh fuck, that's hot. You know. Anyway, speaking of Ben, we're in a hotel room and he is taking something out of a vent space and he puts it in a bag without Jack noticing. Jack, meanwhile, is looking for his pills, and Ben is like, well, I flushed them. And Jack is like, yeah, yeah, I was gonna do the same thing. And Ben's like, I know you were. You condescending jerk. But yeah, you knew, you knew he was. Sure. He was gonna flush him down his throat, not down the toilet.
SPEAKER_05Another reason I love Ben, and I love Sawyer for this reason. Call Jack on his bullshit.
SPEAKER_01And they and they don't talk about doing, they just do, they do, and then they're like, Yeah, I did that. They don't lie, they don't like. I mean, no, that's not true. Ben lies all the time, but but for most shit, Ben is just like, yeah, I I fucked him. Yeah. I mean, Ben is like a pathological liar, and there's still some of his lies that we haven't exposed yet.
SPEAKER_05But I feel like I might be wrong. I don't remember. I can't remember everything he lies about, but I feel like he may lie about things that have happened or what will happen, or the motivation for things, but I don't think he's lied about what he's done and have not done. Has he? He might have. Unless it's for a purpose.
SPEAKER_01He has lied about things that he has done.
SPEAKER_05Okay, but I feel like it's for like it's an end goal. Like he's playing chess. Yes, he doesn't lie about doing it to hide it per se. Like he's ashamed of it. He's like, no, I have a purpose.
SPEAKER_01I'm Ben is a hundred percent playing chess.
SPEAKER_05And and some people can't spell it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Never mind playing checkers. You can't spell chess.
SPEAKER_01So Ben tells Jack that he should go home and pack anything that he wants in this life because he won't ever be coming back. And Jack is like, good. Ben says he's gonna go keep Locke's body safe, and Jack asks why because he's dead, and Ben doesn't answer, but says, I'll pick you up in six hours. Don't ask why, buddy. Just do it.
SPEAKER_05I mean, wouldn't a dead body really need protection because they can't fight for themselves.
SPEAKER_01So I'm also thinking just you know, face value. You've got a dead body in a metal van in Los Angeles.
SPEAKER_05I mean, for the most part, someone would definitely steal that van, and then you just lost the body. And then like the body can get up and get off the van.
SPEAKER_01You know, you've got to yeah, so you might you might want to get it someplace safe. Safe doesn't have to mean somebody who's gonna steal it. Safe could mean, well, we don't want this to rot.
SPEAKER_05Well, that's that, but for some reason I just kind of saw like the body end up getting animated again. I don't know why it's supposed to be embalmed and all that, but like yeah, I like the fact that the the possibility of it being animated again makes me happy, makes just it feels very right.
SPEAKER_01Like John Lunk's gonna get up and start, you know, doing a dance. We can add you know we can at Johnny's.
SPEAKER_05And I and yeah, John. Um I I said it before, he's I I think he's dead, but he's definitely not done with the show. The show's not done with him.
SPEAKER_01Well, he's dead in the off the island, right?
SPEAKER_05But he's he's still not he's still alive in 2005, because it's after Christmas, right? They yes, like they landed in September, yeah. So so to early 2005, so yeah, he's definitely still around, and honestly, with them going back and forth in time, who fucking knows?
SPEAKER_01Well, right, because we've already seen Ethan come back. And Ethan, we saw Ethan die, but then we went back to a time when Ethan was still alive. Exactly. So who knows who else we may see?
SPEAKER_05Or what changes they're gonna make. They might make it that he never dies, for all they know.
SPEAKER_01Later on.
SPEAKER_05Oh, ooh.
SPEAKER_01Oh, did I did I hit a nerve? Oh, I don't I don't know. I I know not of what you speak.
SPEAKER_05Okay, you totally could have like segue out of that in a more natural way, and you didn't. I'm not gonna remember what I said, but you know.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god, well, you please write it down. Do you actually have to listen to an episode to remember?
SPEAKER_05No, you're gonna write it down.
SPEAKER_01Maybe. Maybe.
SPEAKER_05Agnes said um may or may not have said something that you don't even remember now.
SPEAKER_01No, I don't.
SPEAKER_05I kind of sort of don't.
SPEAKER_01Later on, Ben arrives at a butcher shop and begins talking to a woman named Jill. She knows who he is and that he has Loc's coffin in his van. Ben asks her if Gabriel and Jeffrey had checked in yet. And Jill confirms. She comments that everything is moving right on schedule. Ben tells her to keep Loc's body safe, or everything they're about to do won't matter at all.
SPEAKER_05I was like, who, what, where, why, and how? And I'm not. And then I remembered if I ask these questions, I'm gonna give myself a migraine. So we're just gonna watch the next scene. We're gonna forget all of it. This is just it is what it is. And you you're gonna accept it, you're gonna accept this, whatever this is, and just move on. Cause I'm gonna end up like in a padded room doing blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah pretty soon.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01Then we go to Hurley's parents' mansion, and David, his dad, is watching it. Well, first he's making himself like this crazy ass sandwich. Like it's got like pepperoni, caviar. Like, what like what else?
SPEAKER_05It looked kind of good though. It dick it looks.
SPEAKER_01I don't know what wasn't in that sandwich.
SPEAKER_05And what is it with husbands once their wives are away? They make the most awesome sandwiches. It's sandwiches is their go-to. I don't know. I'm not mad at it because that's easy, maybe. I think I might just go back and watch that scene again so I can recreate and figure out what sandwich that was. Maybe I can just Google it.
SPEAKER_01So he goes and he turns on the TV, he's watching Expose. And then Hurley, Hurley comes and he's like knocking on the back door, he's got Said on his shoulder. David is like, Said is barely breathing, and Hurley tells him what happened, but his dad thinks he's lying. Then an LAPD detective show up, well, actually, two of them show up, and David tells him that he hasn't seen Hurley. Hurley doesn't give much away when questioned by his father, but tells him that they can't go into a hospital. He's like, no, no, no. Haven't you seen the Godfather? That's the last place you go. They smother you with a pillow, and I fucking love Hurley. Um Hurley's like that he has an idea. He notes that the police are staking out the mansion. And David is like, are you actually crazy? And Hurley tells him that he has a good reason to lie. But before Hurley can say what it is, his mom returns home, and she's like, Why something like, why is there a dead Pakistani on the couch? And apparently that line That was kind of funny. It was funny, but apparently that line got like a lot of um I can see you know, people take things out of context and and whatever. So apparently it was a little bit controversial.
SPEAKER_05But the thing is though, okay, so let's put this in perspective. They know who he is. They were remember when they had that party, like that the welcome home party or some party.
SPEAKER_01So they were all there, so they know Yeah, because even his father is like, Well, if he's doing all this, like I thought he was your friend. Like if he's doing all this, like you know, right.
SPEAKER_00So it's like my if if my mom would like would have said, um like if I would have been on your couch and she would have been like, Why is there a dead white girl on your couch?
SPEAKER_05Right, right. Because it's not like it's just some random person and you're assuming their race, they know who he is, they know if they know his ethnicity. So I think I I people just want to fight problems with their wrong standing, but go ahead.
SPEAKER_01Can't Pakistani just be an adjective like man or brown hair? I mean, like, or is that stupid? You understand what I mean? Like, why is there a dead blonde girl on my couch? Nobody's gonna be like, oh, they're racist against blonde people. Like uh, I guess. Why can't it just be why can't it just be an adjective, a descriptive word?
SPEAKER_05That's and I think that's that's exactly the way it is. Why make it something with why make it something that it's not?
SPEAKER_01I don't I I don't know. Like that that's just the way I took it, but I I don't know.
SPEAKER_05Maybe I don't I have the wrong um this brown girl did not take any offense to it personally.
SPEAKER_01Neither did this white girl, but I mean you're I mean you're half brown girl. I got my drop. It's somewhere in there, but anyway, it's hard.
SPEAKER_04Don't you have a full 50% drop?
SPEAKER_00I'm just looking at me.
SPEAKER_01I mean yeah, whatever. I'm just saying, like I yeah. I can't think of a comment for that one. Wise, you see me, and and that's what people see.
SPEAKER_05Like you are the you're the resident white girl.
SPEAKER_01Why can't I remember my biology? Um it's the thing, it's um, this is such a fucking tangent. Is it like the pheno the phenotype? Yeah, that's what it is. The phenotype versus the genotype. And the phenotype is the observable. Okay, ready? Here's your here's your weekly Sassin Sips educational corner. A person's genotype is their unique sequence of DNA. More specifically, this term is used to refer to the two forms a person has inherited from their mother and father. The phenotype is the observable expression of the genotype. So it's a person's presentation. So you can't see my genotype. You don't know that my family is from here, there, and everywhere. What you see is the phenotype, which is the white girl with the blue eyes and the blonde hair. Does that make sense?
SPEAKER_05Makes a hundred percent. It makes perfect sense. But I prefer to use your Puritan card when you want to be offensive. I'm just saying, I feel like it's you know, it needs to get out of jail free card. Mike, Mike, gotta need that card. I know I'm over here trying to be like acceptable, offense, like offensive and acceptable level, and you're trying to be like smart about it. Like, yeah, I don't know.
SPEAKER_01I'm just saying, like, I I I'm not stupid. I know what people think when they look at me, or or what most people will assume when they look at me.
SPEAKER_05I mean, I I do know.
SPEAKER_01And in fairness, what else would they have? If if all you're if all you can gather information from is what you can see, then see, you know.
SPEAKER_05No, I get it, but you know, I find any way to be offensive. Yeah. Because, you know, I'm a what is it? A black woman. I'm like a double minority, so guess what? I'm gonna fucking say it. Um, also half-white, so guess what? I don't like anybody, and it's not, you know, I'm not racist, I don't discriminate. I'd hate everybody, everybody can get it. I'm an equal opportunity offender.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. We don't discriminate or hate.
SPEAKER_05Nope, not at all.
SPEAKER_01Anyway, Hurley is like, so after Carmen, you know, is like that he's dead, Hurley's like, no, he's not, and she's like, Well, he's not breathing. So they're like, Okay, um, we need to do something right now. So David takes Saeed out, and Carmen is asking Hurley, like, what's going on? And he tells her the whole truth, and he's breaking down and she listens, and at the end, she's like, Well, I don't understand, but I believe you. Meanwhile, David is bringing Said to Jack. Jack is like, we have to get him to the hospital, and David's like, mmm, Hurley said that's a bad idea. And Jack's like, well, you brought him to me, and I think it's a great idea, so we're gonna do my idea. Jack also wants to know who's with Hurley at the mansion, and David's like, I don't know, maybe his mom. Like, I don't know.
SPEAKER_05Every scene, I totally expect to see a joint or a blunt in his hand.
SPEAKER_01And I'm slightly disappointed when it's like well, considering the sandwich he just ate, he might have smoked it before. Maybe maybe and I did find it online.
SPEAKER_05All they said was the same thing you said pepperoni caviar sandwich.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I don't know. It was like some lettuce in there, but I don't I want to know everything that was in the sandwich. Okay, we'll we'll have to go back and and look for it. Thanks, Mom.
SPEAKER_05I think I would add like the all the vinegar salad, like the sandwich dressing. Like, you know, I think I would do that.
SPEAKER_01Remember Joe's superette on on stop it. Yes. Oh my god. Stop it with the mozzarella, like the fresh mozzarella and the ham, the lettuce, tomato, oil and vinegar. Oh my god, salt and pepper. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_05And then somehow making your own oil vinegar is just not the same. It doesn't, and then somehow when the lettuce is shredded on the deli machine, it's back, it just hits. Oh my god, yes. Yeah, oh man. I mean, you can shred it with the night. Just not the same thing. First of all, making your own sandwich is not the same. Having someone else make it for you, it's just that's that's that's what that was such a treat.
SPEAKER_01When my mother used to take us there to get, you know, like um a sandwich there. Oh, that was such a treat.
SPEAKER_05I have pepperoni and I have ham. Maybe once what's up with Cody, I'll get some like hero bread.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_05And a thing of lettuce. I know you have lettuce.
SPEAKER_01Actually, I do not. I just I ate why I ate the last one.
SPEAKER_05My god, this woman eats a head of lettuce like an apple.
SPEAKER_01I do. You well, I mean, I make a salad out of it, but I eat the whole head of lettuce.
SPEAKER_05But you but you're mo you're also capable of eating that bitch if necessary, like an apple.
SPEAKER_01That's true. It's funny because um I'm like, I'm the only idiot who gets an edible arrangement and I eat all the fruit and then I eat the kale underneath it.
SPEAKER_05People looking like, wait, there's kale.
SPEAKER_01Like people just like somebody literally exactly said that to me. That's kale. I was like, yes, it is. I know because I eat it.
SPEAKER_05They're like, wait, I've never even remember seeing it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like they'll delete the stuff that's supposed to look like leaves. Yeah, well, I was like, what is it?
SPEAKER_05It's kale. It's actually, I actually, okay, so sometimes more like security, like we have to do training for like internet security and stuff every so often. And every so often, IT the our IT department will send us like random emails to test us to make sure we know they're phishing emails. We get the same. So I got the one that said, you're getting an edible arrangement for Valentine's Day. I'm like, oh shit, fishing. I they sent it to the wrong person because they no one's sending me shit, especially for Valentine's Day. I'm like, they picked the right one the right day, because I know for a fact that this is this is not real. Like, you could have done something like, oh, you owe someone money. Then I'm like, oh, wait, what? But didn't it mean something? Yeah, no. Because I don't think my cat knows how to order edible arrangements.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he doesn't have to figure out how to charge it to your credit card. So I think if if he was to do something, yeah, he would definitely figure out how to charge it to my account first. So Jack is taking Saeed to the hospital, and he also lets Ben in on what happened. So he's like, guess who showed up? And Ben is like, um, okay. Jack is treating Said, who then wakes up and attacks Jack. And Jack is like, it's me, Jack. And Saeed's like, all right, where's Hurley? Back at the mansion. Hurley is making a hot pocket. Ben shows up and Hurley just fucking throws it at him, and I'm like throws it at the wall. That is like assault with a deadly fucking hot pocket. Okay, those motherfuckers are hot as fuck.
SPEAKER_05You could get like seven degree burns from those motherfuckers.
SPEAKER_01Off. Right.
SPEAKER_05He would have been, yeah, he would have looked like um two-faced.
SPEAKER_01But just the just the fact that Hurley just turns around and throws it, and then it's like, wait, what? And it just hits the wall. Oh, oh my god.
SPEAKER_05I was like, I saw that scene, I'm like, Lisa loved this scene. I can tell I'm like, this is Lisa's thing. Like, I know. Like I can watch a scene, I'm like, yeah, Lisa's, this is her scene right here.
SPEAKER_01I did. And then I was like, damn, I want a hot pocket now.
SPEAKER_05You know what I want? I want a crustable.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05But I want to refrigerate it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Nah. I just like peanut butter and jelly.
SPEAKER_01No, I like peanut butter. I love peanut butter and jelly. I'm just not a huge fan of crustables. Or uncrustables? Crustables? Whatever. Those.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, but I think, but and it's like I would I buy a pack? No. But I think Krista had bought some for Axel when he was like just trying to eat, you know, like a year or whatever. And I don't know if it's refrigerated or it was in the freezer. I don't know. Something, but something about that, it just hit. I was like, oh, this is nice. Okay. Yeah, gotta put in the is when you have things, when you eat things that are not made like from the directions, and you do it your own. Throw a, you know, mm-hmm. I wouldn't process food in general, though. I can go for some like crappy food right now.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so anyway, um Ben is just trying to persuade Hurley to come with him. You know, he says that he knows that Said and Jack are together, and that how would he know that unless, you know, Hurley should trust him and that he can help him get back to the island where he won't have to lie anymore. It'll all be over, no more lying, no more running. And Hurley is looking at him, thinking about it, but then he remembers that Said told him never to do what Ben says, and he says, never, dude. He runs out the front door to the police, confessing, I killed four people, three people, however, many are dead. I killed them.
SPEAKER_05Doesn't he know brown people can't say that? Like, come on, and this is LA, like, dude, I'm surprised you get shot right away walking up. Fuck LA, come on.
SPEAKER_01Um, so as they're taking him into custody, Ben is standing like back by the house, and Hurley looks at him and just smiles. Toodles. Yeah. We're gonna do we're gonna go back to the island before we do the end of the episode. So we don't know what year this is.
SPEAKER_05On the island. Do you have but we do know it's before they landed because they're over here doing yeah, they don't have any supplies.
SPEAKER_01Right. At the beach, the survivors gather wood in order to start a fire. Rose and Bernard bicker over the best way to do so, and Neil, Frogart, approaches and tells them that they have bigger issues right now. Sawyer and Juliet discuss the zodiac being still with them, and she thinks that it's because whatever they had with them when they moved is along for the ride. In a way that doesn't make sense though, then, right? Because then wouldn't the beach camps I think they mean first?
SPEAKER_05I thought they meant like on their persons. Right, which But the Zodiac wasn't on their persons.
SPEAKER_01Right. Like when Daniel and them were in it, yes. Yes. But then nobody was in it, so like why did the zodiac stay, but then the beach kitchen didn't.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, that I think that was a I think that was a slip-up.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I I I thought it was weird, like I never really kind of caught it before, but going back now, I'm like, mm. Daniel returns to the beach and is confronted by Sawyer and Juliet. He lies about what he was doing in the jungle, telling Sawyer that he left his pack and he was trying to find it. Juliet says that they should take the raft and head to a shipping lane, which Daniel disagrees with. He says he needs to calculate a new bearing as he unpacks a sextant, and in order to do so, he needs to determine where they are in time. Miles declares that he's gonna find something to eat, and Juliet looks at him skeptically. By nightfall, Bernard is still attempting to get a fire going, while the other survivors wait impatiently, especially Neil. Charlotte says she has a headache still and that she forgot her mother's maiden name earlier. Daniel doesn't seem to find this odd. He kind of brushes it off actually, and he's like, Oh, you know, we're under stress. And then Charlotte is like, Do you know what's happening? But before he can answer, Miles strolls out of the jungle with a dead boar, saying he found it. They're like, Wait, you found it? Like what? He was like, Don't worry, it's only been dead for three hours. And then they're like, How do you know that? I mean, how do you know that? Are you asking me or are you being like the survivors?
SPEAKER_05No, like and gent no, like rhetorical, like because I'm like, you should be able to do it. How do you know it's been dead for three hours? Like, how like no, and you're asking him, like, how do you know it's been three hours? Like, as a like this a random right, right. Time, like right.
SPEAKER_00Um wait, I should know the answer. Remember, Miles can hear like dead people. Oh, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right.
SPEAKER_05Right. Yeah, I forgot that part. He's Hayley Joe Osman, got it.
SPEAKER_01Except he hears them, not sees them.
SPEAKER_05Okay, so he's the seventh sense.
SPEAKER_01Um, Neil begins to insult the survivors about the current predicament, complaining that among other things, they can't even start a fire. We have no fire. You do now, Neil. You do now.
SPEAKER_05I was not mad at that situation. I'm like, he shut him up. Nope. He was getting away.
SPEAKER_01Neil, Neil went the route of arst, you know, Mr. Ohier than thou, and you got kind of what was coming.
SPEAKER_05I just okay, listen, I get times are stressful, and there's a lot going on, but you would think at this point in time, fuck you around the island, nothing would phase you at this point.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Like he, like you're a liability, go somewhere.
SPEAKER_01So all of a sudden, it's like a rain of fire arrows, and they all take off running. Neil is like dead, and later on, all you see is Sawyer and Juliet in the jungle, and they're trying to they're trying, they're supposed to meet by the creek, and Juliet is like, well, like the creek is kind of big, so what part? And Sawyer's like, I don't know, the wet part. Like, you know, if not for the accent, you're like, is Sawyer from New York City? Because he's so he's so fucking salty, like the fuck, the wet part. Um they hear um, they hear rustling and then they see like they see people and Sawyer's like, um are they somebody yours or whatever? And Julia's I I don't know, you won't go ask them.
SPEAKER_05I feel like they I don't know if they're gonna end up together, but they need to. I mean, she just gives Sawyer right back to him.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Like he needs someone who's going to like give it back to him and not take it process.
SPEAKER_01Well, and she holds her own.
SPEAKER_05Tay was too sensitive. Right. Tay was a little bit too sensitive.
SPEAKER_01As they're like in the middle of that, she gets grabbed by the hair. And the guy, his shirt says Jones. And he's like, What are you doing on our island? You know. The soy Sawyer is just like, like, whoa, whoa, whoa, like let me let me explain, like this and that. And he's like something to the effect of, okay, and before I cut her other hand off. And they're like, wait, what? And they're like, yeah, just to show you how serious we are, we're just gonna, we're just gonna cut one hand off. But before that could happen, suddenly, like, there's stones flying through the air, knocking them out. Juliet grabs one of the guns, and then the other guy gets up with a knife to attack Sawyer, and another knife comes flying through the air, killing him. And we all know that when knives fly through the air, there's only one person to be responsible for that. My man Locke. So as they hold the men at gunpoint, Locke reveals himself, pulls the weapon out of his chest, and is like, hi, like, hey guys, what's up?
unknownHey.
SPEAKER_05So I'm over here as you're speaking, going down a time traveling rabbit hole. My first thought is if they're switching through time, why is it if the island is moving through time, why isn't everyone like why are they the only ones moving into different times, but no one else is moving? But then I'm like, okay, well, maybe the island itself is switching, is like overlapping into like certain places. So like the people who with the island is originally overlapping over time-wise, they stay, and then the island moves again with its people from the 2005 island is going back and overlapping on the other. Like, you know, you have like the trace the chasing paper, and you have the different, you have the islands, and it's like going over its okay. Never mind. It makes sense in my head. I can't explain it. I need to do it visual. I'm trying to figure out like why did they move, but no one else moves. And then I'm like, okay, maybe the island is physically moving in time, overlapping through past island times. And then, and there's okay, never mind. Fucking rabbit hole. I hate you, Lisa.
SPEAKER_01Well, because remember, my um Daniel said either the island is moving or we are.
SPEAKER_05So but the island is kind of moving because it's not there anymore when you know people got off the freighter. So the I Daniel, like you can't see the forest for the trees, obviously. Um, but the island does move it. I'm gonna bring the next recording. I'm going to bring um tracing paper. And I'm gonna draw like different islands. I'm gonna draw a diagram. Okay. And then the other thing that kind of pissed me off, they're like, what are you doing on I island? Obviously, I'm assuming Jones and his cohorts are from Dharma. They have the uniform on. This is Dharma from the past. Um, didn't they take wasn't there other inhabitants on the island? Wasn't because the weren't there already inhabitants on the island when Dharma took over? So I find it to be quite oh, colonial at its best. Yeah, hello, at its best. Like, bitch, no, it's not your fucking island. Okay, go ahead. That's what they said. That's what this, that's what the Puritans said about the American and about the Native Americans.
SPEAKER_04They should let them stop.
SPEAKER_05I'm so going to. I'm just saying. If they did, they wouldn't have been the trail of tea, the trail, the trail of tears.
SPEAKER_01They would have, I mean, so I think the takeaway is that we gotta try to figure out where that scene goes. Because we don't know when.
SPEAKER_05We don't know when.
SPEAKER_01So our only clues are that they're wearing Dharma stuff. And their beach camp, you know, like the the crash hasn't happened. So we know that it's pre-2004, and they're wearing Dharma stuff.
SPEAKER_05Relatively new Dharma stuff. So, like it's and Dharma, if you look at the the hatches in 2004-2005, it's obviously been out of use for a long time. But the stuff has been so the uniforms are in good condition. So this is like I'm saying, doing Dharma's height of their occupation of this land. So decades ago.
SPEAKER_01And the only other clue, I mean, not really a clue, but it's just we see three people and their names were like Jones, Mattingley, and Cunningham.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I didn't look at the names.
SPEAKER_01And one of them has a British, a British accent. I still don't know what that's all like that's all we know about these guys. And I I need to know what one likes to cut off hands, apparently.
SPEAKER_05And I don't know if I ever asked you this. Do we find out what why Whitmore brought Miles, Charlotte, and Daniel to the island? Well, I know why Daniel was an island.
SPEAKER_01Not find out why. Do we or or did we?
SPEAKER_05Do we find out like why those two?
SPEAKER_01We find out their motivations.
SPEAKER_05Okay. Thank you. Maybe I'll watch a little bit longer.
SPEAKER_01Oh, thanks, buddy.
SPEAKER_05Not like I have a choice in the matter.
SPEAKER_01Now we're gonna move on to the final scene. We see a hooded figure in a strange room, computer, a computer that's very reminiscent of the hatch computer. And a chalkboard, and she's doing like these equations and stuff, and stuff.
SPEAKER_04And stuff.
SPEAKER_01There's a pendulum swinging with chalk over a large map on the floor.
SPEAKER_05That kind of reminds me of Charmed with the pendulum that they used to do when they used to try to find locate another witch. They'd do a pendulum over a map, and wherever it landed, that's what they're I didn't watch.
SPEAKER_01I like I watched some of it, but I didn't I didn't watch all of it.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, they had like a little pendulum, and then there was wave it over a map, and wherever the crystal would I forgot what it was, like landed and dropped. Okay, oh no, yeah. But yeah, that's what it reminded me of. I have no life. The map features I'm a professional TV watcher.
SPEAKER_01The map features several sets of intersecting lines in the Pacific Ocean and at least one set in the Atlantic Ocean east of Florida. The figure appears to be working out the co-coordinates of the island using a computer very similar but not identical to the ones found in the Pearl and Swan stations. There appears to be a Dharma logo of an unknown station on the monitor, as well as on a number of dharma binders on either side. The computer screen flashes event window determined, and the figure ponders the pendulum. The figure goes up some stairs into a room where we see Ben lighting some candles in a church. Ben is told he only has 70 hours to complete his work, to which he says he needs more. The figure is revealed and we see who she is. And she states that if Ben can't get all of them to go back in 70 hours, then God help us all. Did you recognize her?
SPEAKER_05She looked familiar. I'm like, okay. I feel like I've seen her in like an earlier season. Okay, great. I don't fucking know where.
SPEAKER_01We have seen her in Desmond's flashes. When he was trying, remember when he was going to buy Penny's ring? And she was the one who sold him the ring and he was gonna propose.
SPEAKER_05Okay.
SPEAKER_01You don't remember that's her? Yeah.
SPEAKER_05I remember the scene, but I don't remember what she looked like.
SPEAKER_01And he was like, Oh, I'll take this ring, and she was like, No, you won't. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_05I remember the scene, but it If that's who she is, then why the fuck? Who the fuck is she? I'm not, I mean, right.
SPEAKER_00And that's who the fuck is she?
SPEAKER_05You're not a jeweler.
SPEAKER_00She is not she is not a jeweler, right?
SPEAKER_05And that's a flash. Is she a time traveling bitch too? I can't.
SPEAKER_01But that's the end of the episode.
SPEAKER_05And this is when I text you and said, I hate you. I quit. I'm quitting. This is another be a mind-blown season. I quit. I'm quitting. Uh, yeah, let's see.
SPEAKER_01What did your text say? It said, This is going to be another mind fuck season, isn't it? Ugh, I'm quitting. I think that pretty much wraps up your thoughts for the episode.
SPEAKER_05And the and the whole season. But I will bring, I will be bringing diagrams to show you guys next week or next two, whenever. The next time we record this. I will bring trace. I gotta find tracing paper. Um yes, and um, yes. It's gonna make sense, I promise.
SPEAKER_01Okay, this is the only episode of the season in which all main characters appear. Desmond only appeared in the beginning in the flashback, has no speaker lines. Jin only appeared in the reused footage. And Michelle Rodriguez, Anna Lucia, makes her first appearance since the season two episode question mark, which is an absence of 42 episodes.
SPEAKER_00Is she coming back again?
SPEAKER_01I'm not telling you.
SPEAKER_05I mean, it doesn't make a difference. I just wonder if I want to see her again. My gosh. I don't care what I don't care, like I don't need to know the scene. I just need to know if I see her again. You just big me.
SPEAKER_01When when this episode aired, it actually aired with because you left as the premiere. So they they did the both episodes like together. And it was the highest-rated episode of season five. It had like over 13 million viewers.
SPEAKER_0513 million sheep.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05At least it's like I was one of them.
SPEAKER_01Lapidas fetches two bottles of Jekyll Island Red Ale, which is a prop beer brand from Independent Studio Services, also seen in the shows Dexter and Rules of Attraction. So if you watch any of those shows, you know, maybe you thought it was funny.
SPEAKER_05Kind of like um Hudson University and all shows that take place in New York.
SPEAKER_01The title of the episode is The Lie. And obviously the big one is the lie that the Oceanic Six told, you know, to the public about how they got off the island and the circumstances and stuff like that.
SPEAKER_00But not that good stuff.
SPEAKER_01I feel like there's also another lie, but I can't tell you what it is. I think son.
SPEAKER_05Oh, excuse me.
SPEAKER_01She lied about it. There's a little bit more than one lie going on.
SPEAKER_05A little bit more than I think every scene is a huge lie going on. Okay, everything's a lie. I'm gonna cover my basis. And I think on some level, so yes, she won. I think she uh okay, at the much pondering and introspection, not really. So I definitely do think that she ultimately blames Benjamin for her husband's death. I think she's also kind of pissed off at Jack, more so than like you know how she case, she's kind of like, mmm. But I think she's the second is Jack is on her list. Yeah, the way she said, and how's Jack? It just kind of it was more than just well, you got your guy, I don't have my guy. I think it's more, it was more than that. And what else was the lie? Let's see.
SPEAKER_01I think it's safe to say Jack is lying about he was gonna flush the pills. Oh, well, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_05I basically forgot about that one. That was just an obvious lie.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Can you can you figure out what Ben is lying about? If he's lying about anything, which I think it's always safe to assume Ben is lying about something.
SPEAKER_05I don't know. For some reason, I think he has the least lies right now. I think. Go figure.
SPEAKER_01Kate is obviously still lying about her son.
SPEAKER_05I mean, but yeah, that's that. Who else was on this? Who else was in this scene?
SPEAKER_01Well, Said had zero speaking lines the entire episode, so he can lie about I mean, well, no, that's not true.
SPEAKER_05He I mean he did towards the end, but I mean not enough to lie, not the on the island. Let's see.
SPEAKER_01Unless, of course, he's lying about trusting Ben.
SPEAKER_05I'm just saying. Fucking rabbit hole. Okay, you know what? I'm done. My head's spinning. Um, yeah, because I'm like, I feel like Alice right now.
SPEAKER_01Locke, Locke had zero zero lines off island. Maybe he's lying about being dead. You know what? I would not dismiss that out of hand. Like it's quite knowing this show, it's right.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Anyway, I think if you I think with this show, you find out he's actually dead. You're like, oh shit, he's dead, dead? The fuck? Where did that come from? Like you'd be shocked.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that would be more shocking. Yeah. In the gas station scene, all of the oceanic six appear or are explicitly referenced. Hurley and Saeed are there. Kate and Aaron are there. Sun makes Sun calls Kate while she's there, and then we see Jack's name on the phone because Kate was thinking of calling him. So I thought that was cute that I didn't really like catch myself. Oh. Interesting.
SPEAKER_05Maybe we should go to that. Maybe he should have bought a lot of ticket.
SPEAKER_01Maybe. Sawyer calls Faraday Dr. Wizard, which is corrected by Miles, that it should be Mr. Wizard. And it's a reference to the multi-decade science show for children that appeared on television. I'm not sure how you pronounce this. Focult's pendulum.
SPEAKER_04Sounds good to me.
SPEAKER_01Okay. And the scene where they're using the pendulum to pinpoint a secret location on a map refers to a similar scene at the climax of this novel by Umberto Echo. The novel deals with a trio of writers and publishers satirizing the use of conspiracy theories, superstition, and numerology rampant in submitted manuscripts. The satirical how do you say it? Satirical?
SPEAKER_05Satirical? I don't know. It's one of those things I know when I hear it. I don't know if I have to Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Their satirical theory inadvertently becomes realizes realized by inspiring the true believers. A faux cult pendulum is a device to prove the rotation of the earth. Normal pendulums always swing the same direction no matter how you turn it. Therefore, its own rotation is due to the rotation of the earth. Anyway.
SPEAKER_05I miss some, if not most, of the dead ones like this point.
SPEAKER_01Aaron says to Kate, Mommy, I want I want to go home while the two were in the gas station parking lot. It's unknown to him that Ben is on a mission for the Oceanic Six to return to his true home where his real mother was last seen. When they start throwing the fire arrows, Neil is wearing a red shirt when he gets shot. You remember the whole red shirt thing, like the Star Trek? So there's um like a what do you call it? Not a gimmick. Um like a trope.
SPEAKER_05Okay.
SPEAKER_01Like the red the red shirts.
SPEAKER_05Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_01Because the redshirts are the ones that like, you know, they get killed off.
SPEAKER_05Yes.
SPEAKER_01And so red shirt.
SPEAKER_05Got it.
SPEAKER_01When Hurley surrenders himself to the police, he does so because Saeed told him, whatever Ben tells you, you do the opposite.
SPEAKER_05Right.
SPEAKER_01So in order for him to not go with Ben, he surrenders himself to the police, which is in direct conflict from what Anna Lucia told him, which is don't get caught, stay away.
SPEAKER_05Uh-huh. If you had to, so his imagination is at odds with Saeed's direction.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_05I mean, other than the obvious, An or C is a figure of his own thoughts. So he obviously doesn't trust himself enough to make a right decision. So even though this decision may seem counterintuitive, he's gonna go with someone else's direction as opposed to trusting himself. Or maybe the fates are just putting me in in the hands of where he's supposed to be when he's supposed to be there. I mean so any normal person like stay away from the cops, stay away from the cops, stay away from the cops. But the island and his infinite wisdom has its own little yeah, no, we're gonna put him in the hands where we want him. I don't fucking know. I'm not drunk enough for this like now. It's all confusion.
SPEAKER_01When at the beginning of the episode, when they're talking about the prospect of having to lie, Hurley wants to tell the truth, and Jack is like, no one will ever believe you. When he finally tells his mother, I mean the story sounds absolutely fucking bonkers, right? Because he's like, we crashed on an island, and then there were polar bears and smoke monsters, and then the others, but then we teamed up with the others because of the Dharma, and then Desmond's girlfriend like sent a freighter, but it wasn't hers, and then you know, so like it sounds absolutely fucking bonkers. But no matter how crazy it sounds, I mean, we get a little bit of like exposition, you know, in case you forgot all the crazy shit that's happened. But she actually she believes him. So once again, it's like, oh, Jack is like, no, no, no, nobody's gonna believe you, and then Hurley tells his mom and she's like, Oh, I believe you. On the island, we see Sawyer kind of stepping into that leadership role, barefoot and shirtless.
SPEAKER_05And I'm not I know you're killing me, Smalls.
SPEAKER_01I don't have a feet fetish or anything, but I there's something about like being barefoot that's sexy. I don't know what it is. Like, I don't I don't have yeah, no, I don't like I don't want to like suck on your toes or anything like or
SPEAKER_05But like Okay, that's good to know.
SPEAKER_01No, I just like I don't know something about like Is this symbolic to be him being grounded?
SPEAKER_05That's what exactly I was gonna say.
SPEAKER_01I like being barefoot. Maybe that's what like like by extension, like I I feel like it's it's hot, like it's primal. I don't know. I don't know what Jesus Christ, these assholes.
SPEAKER_05I'm gonna call you Jane. I'm gonna find you a Tarzan.
SPEAKER_01Okay, will he come with a little skirt?
SPEAKER_05Little loincloth.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. The opening flashback of this episode fills in the gap between them getting to the searcher, you know, and then rowing to the island, like where they got rescue, you know.
SPEAKER_05Oh, yeah, yeah, right, right, right.
SPEAKER_01We get references to two new characters or you know, two new names, Gabriel and Jeffrey.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, he's like that have they checked in. And let's not meant let's not forget the butcher and the crazy jeweler that's not a jeweler.
SPEAKER_01Right, right. So not only do we have mention of two other people, but then we see the other two women, and we're like, okay, what the fuck?
SPEAKER_05Like, now we just got four new people, two of which we put faces to, one of which is completely brand new, and the other one is like, wait, but we saw you selling a ring to dead or did you remember who she was when you first saw her with this first air? Like, oh, that was the jeweler. Did you remember at that time who she was?
SPEAKER_01I want to say yes, but I also feel it could have been because they do the previously, and they don't really I don't think they do that on Hulu.
SPEAKER_05No, I think like, but when you watch, you know, when when I watched On the Air, they had like little snippets and they probably brought something from season two.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_05Okay.
SPEAKER_01Um we don't know what Ben got out of the vent. We don't know who these his cohorts are, what they're up to, and we're not sure what he means by keeping Locke's body safe.
SPEAKER_05You mean more than melting?
SPEAKER_01Well, you know, I'm just saying, like, that's our assumption, right?
SPEAKER_05Maybe there's something hiding in his body. Oh fucking. Maybe they had to something, but like, why do he need why does he need to go back to the island? And I feel like they need his body for a reason, and I don't know what the fuck that reason is.
SPEAKER_01Obviously.
SPEAKER_05Because normally you would ask me, Well, what do you think? And I'm and I'm just preempting your question.
SPEAKER_01Good. That's good. This is progress.
SPEAKER_05I don't know. That's uh that's we might blake it answer. I don't know. I do not recall.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_05All right. I did not have sexual relations. See, that's not a lie.
SPEAKER_01Um last words on this episode before we move on.
SPEAKER_05I'm mad at you for putting me in the position of being mind fucked again by loss. Other than that, no, I'm pretty good.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_05I'm ready for the next episode.
SPEAKER_01The next episode is called Jughead. Like a marine. And you know what they say, right? Like in shows, you don't introduce a gun unless you're gonna use it. So yeah, next next week's episode. Uh-oh. Jughead. Uh-oh. No, no, no.
SPEAKER_05Okay, I'm I'm not ready. Oh, well, I said ready. No, I'm I'm being as ready as I can possibly be. Maybe I will drink while I'm watching it. So I'm prepared to remember when I'm drinking as we're recording, because it'll give me something to like yeah, to connect to. Yes. A constant.
SPEAKER_01It'll give me red wine. Will you be my constant? All right, guys, that is going to do it for this episode. Thank you so much for listening and spending time with us. SPEAKER_05We need to ask something about don't drink and podcast. Because I feel like we're like cautionary tales of drinking and podcasting. No good could come of this.
SPEAKER_01Am I waiting on you? Okay. Stop eating, damn it. I don't care. I can't even eat those. Go away. Eat them later.
SPEAKER_03They're so good.
SPEAKER_05It was just sitting here in the Ferrero Rocher, like the the the coconut, the regular hazelnut, and then the dark chocolate one. It was two packs for ten dollars. My god.
