Hi, and welcome to this episode of Sassin's Sips, where we are about to get into episode 8, the final episode of the Netflix series, clickbait. If you are new, you should probably start at the beginning. But if you have been with us, then you know that I'm Lisa. And I'm Brittany. And you are about to be in for a good time. We hope. We think. We are. So thank you for hanging out with us tonight. And this is the podcast where we drink and we watch TV shows and we sip and we sass and we invite all of our friends out there to hang out with us. And we are live and in person. We are. Well, we're not live, but we're live.
SPEAKER_03We're in person. We're live. We've made it to another month. We've made it to another episode. And and as usual, it's raining. Yeah. I mean, like, come on, like, there's always gonna be something. There were mic problems, it's raining.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. But on the bright side, we have our golden girls wine glasses because no mag lips today. We're just gonna get to the meat of the episode. Thank you so much. Cheers. Cheers.
SPEAKER_03And what are we drinking? Well, we're going back to exactly how we started. We're going to Cali Red 19 Crimes. 19 Crimes, baby. Just like episode one when we were in person. Yeah, Snoop Dogg. Yeah. I know. I was looking at the bottom, I'm like, that's really cool.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And uh I've got my Sophia wine glass. And I'm Blanche today. Yeah. So, you know. We are. Yeah, we're excited.
SPEAKER_03I'm excited. So I like the first time I saw this episode was immediately after we finished recording episode seven. I was just like, holy shit. Yeah. I was like, oh my god, I didn't expect it to go that way. And then I watched it again, like what, like three hours ago? And I was like, oh my god, I forgot. Like because it was such a like I remembered, like obviously, but there was like such like a long time period in between, like I feel like it's been like two weeks, probably actually been like two weeks, but I was watching it again this morning and I'm like, where'd he come from? Like I was feeling everything again, even though I've kind of remembered what happened. But yeah, I feel like it's one of those episodes that you can keep re-watching it and you're just like, oh my god, like what a turn.
SPEAKER_00And it gets you, it gets you because you get to the beginning and you think, oh, I know what's gonna happen. I know who he's gonna find. And then the door opens, and it's like, what the fuck? Exactly.
SPEAKER_03That door opened, and I remembered the first time I watched it, I was just like, You're not Matt. I was like, uh didn't we just see you in the last episode? Like, all shocked, like, oh my god, like there's shit on his computer. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And then I was just like, oh, like it immediately came together as soon as she saw her, like at the door.
SPEAKER_00Fucking criminal mastermind.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, like everything came together really fast. Like it was really easy to like surmise what was going on, and I'm just like, oh, like that's what happened. But yeah, oh my god, let's get into it. Got my notes, you got your notes?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I got my notes, we got our wine, we kind of got the mic to work. Um I don't have Star Wars tickets. Uh anyway. That's a whole rant for another episode. Episode 8 is called The Answer, fittingly.
SPEAKER_03It's the first time that an episode hasn't been named after like a person's title, which just kind of throws you off.
SPEAKER_00Right. Because you expect that it's a it's gonna be about a certain person.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, especially when the last episode was like the sun. Like if I was if I was looking through all the episodes before watching the series and I saw like the sister, the the wife, the mistress, like everybody just going down, the detective, like and I saw everybody, and then I saw the answer, I'd be like Definitely Is it the answer to one of these seven titles? Because I don't know. I don't know. I just I really like the way that they ended up.
SPEAKER_01Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_03I do. Um, and I like the way that they started off the episode too. Um, it picked up immediately where episode seven ended.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And it was it this episode or was it last episode where Sophie found like Sophie pulled back Kai's covers?
SPEAKER_00End of last episode.
SPEAKER_03Okay, so at the beginning of this episode, she was just like freaking out. She's like, oh my god, wait, Kai. And that's when Ethan, like, and I love the way that like they did this. Ethan just immediately goes to his computer and realizes that like Kai must have gotten to his computer. And that's how they lead it to Kai escape to go to the address. Right. Ethan figures it out really, really fast, which is great, tells his mom, his mom calls Pia, and they're all like on their way to the address. But they still don't know like whose address it is. Neither does Ethan. Right. Ethan's actually, I'm sure Ethan stays at home because that's like the only time in the episode where he's seen, except for all the way at the end.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Um I don't know if he stays at home or he they send him to Nick and Pia's mom's house because they get a phone call later and it's it's Pia's mom, and and then like Ethan wants to talk to Sophie. Oh. So they they're together. I don't know where they're together, but they're together. Okay or at least that's the that's the way it seems.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, okay. I didn't pick up on that. Yeah, so I didn't see Ethan at all, and like especially like at like the peak of the episode at like kind of like the end in my head, I'm like, where the fuck is Ethan?
SPEAKER_00Yeah like where did he go? But I guess Sophie just wanted him to be home, be safe. Um, there really wasn't really anything for him to do at that point. And he's probably better off at home with access to the computer, you know, and all the metadata.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, and maybe that's what Sophie was saying. Maybe she was just like, get in touch with your brother. Because as like Kai's now approaching the address, like the house. Um, it it's a house, it's not even like a building or anything like that. Like it's a residential house. Um, and as he's approaching it, he's getting like these texts and miss calls from Ethan saying, like, don't go in, this guy's dangerous. Right, um, like turn back now, and Kai's just like ignoring everything. And so I like how Ethan was saying, like, this guy is dangerous. I don't know if Ethan knew maybe it could be Matt and maybe didn't know Matt's address if he like assumed it was Matt too, because I don't know if like I don't remember if Pia said anything about that incident.
SPEAKER_00I don't think so. Well, I'm guessing that the assumption could just be that if this is the person who went through all the trouble to do this to his dad, obviously he could be dangerous.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and they say like I the second time I was watching, I was like, I like how Ethan specifically said he because when Kai opens up the door and sees Don, one of the secretaries from Nick's job. Right. I think he was thrown off as well, and he was like, Oh, it's not a he, it's just Don. Like and he must have known Don because the way that Don was talking to him, it seemed like she like she was talking to him. She recognized like she could recognize him from like photos and shit like that, but it seems like he as a child recognized her. Yeah. Which was like important because like when a child recognizes an adult in like a time of crisis like that, like they should be able to find safety. And so she was like, that's the way she was like, Come inside, we'll take care of you. And like he was not apprehensive at all about it. Like, he was like, Okay, like I know this is a safe person. So it was just weird, it was unsettling, but purposefully, you know.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and and so when it opens, like you said, you see Kai walking, following his phone, ignoring the messages, and then just as he gets to the door, you get the opening clickbait, and then it goes into a flashback. Right, so it goes into a flashback of uh like two years ago on Nick's first day at the job, and Nick they're showing Nick around, and he gets introduced. Yeah, Matt introduces him to Dawn and Linda, and Matt makes a comment about Don, and she's like, I'm a peach. Uh-huh. And then basically, that's kind of when you get back to him, to Kai standing there and opening the door, and you're like, Oh, it's you, Peach.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, and like she was like so joking, and like she was like, Don't don't listen to Matt. Like, I don't listen to what he says, I'm a peach. Right, yeah, right. And you're right, it was just it was weird, it was very weird. But that was two years ago, and it says that like on the screen, like as like the scene's going on, it says two years ago. Yeah, which was important to note because the show takes place in what 2020, 2021? I think 2020. 2020. Yeah. Because like after after I finished watching this, I was watching an interview, and they were saying that they started filming in 2020, and then they had to take like a whole year gap because of COVID. So when they came back for the last few episodes, like Kai was dramatically different because he was like going through pure period, and they were trying to like make him still seem like he was still the age of his character because it was a whole year and a half between filming. So this was 2018, you know, like a whole two years beforehand.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and then um Kai Kai thinks that Ethan is prank playing prank. Maybe he's prank. Playing a prank on him.
SPEAKER_03Because like he was like, This is so unlikely. Yeah, he was like, Oh, I guess um Ethan like said something because I I forgot about that part. Yeah. And that's when she was like, Oh, like, don't worry, like, come in.
SPEAKER_00Like Right. And she said, and she asked him, also, do they know you're here? That was later on when he was in the kitchen with the setting down. Oh, I thought, okay. Oh no, no, she asks if if he's there too.
SPEAKER_03Oh yeah, no, he was like, No, no, it's just like because when he was like, Oh, I think Ethan's playing a prank on me, she was like, Oh, is Ethan, Ethan here too? And he's like, No, no, no, it's just me.
SPEAKER_00Right. Yeah, so she says, Oh, yeah, come on in, um, we'll we'll drive you home, blah blah blah. Like, you know, nice.
SPEAKER_03Don't call your mom or whatever, like what an adult should do in that situation for a child, because Kai is like a kid, so that's when Ed comes to the door as well. Ed is we find out that's Don's husband, and she goes, Oh, and like here's my husband Ed. Like, yeah, she's like and I'll and I'll get Ed here to drive you home. Yeah, yeah. And so that's when we get introduced to Ed, Don's husband.
SPEAKER_00So I'm I'm not sure. I don't I didn't write down and I don't remember exactly how the flashbacks take place.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it was like hard to keep track of them in my notes because it's like I want it because like the flashbacks happen, then it goes back to the scene that they started at before the flashback. So I want to stay consistent with like the main scene's notes and not the flashbacks notes.
SPEAKER_00So So do you want to just kind of we can just recap the flashbacks and how we got to this point?
SPEAKER_01Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so basically, in flashback, um, building on from Nick's first day, Dawn takes him to his office and shows him his setup and explains to him about how to log into the computer, and Nick tells her he's no good at any of this and asks her to help.
SPEAKER_03And she's the one who sets up his computer password, which is Butch Brewer. Butch, I was gonna say Buster, Butch Brewer. And so, like the way like he genuinely just goes, Oh, make it Butch Brewer. That was my hamster. Like, it just seems like so like goofy in the way that Pia described it back in like episode what two when they were trying to get to his computer. Um so Don sets that up. She also suggests connecting his phone. So now his phone's connected to his work computer, and she has access to all this shit. And he literally leaves the office, gets introduced to Tara, and the other girl who was saying, right?
SPEAKER_00Because it's like, hi, I just met you, and this is crazy. But here's my phone and all my information. And she sees us, she's like uploading his phone, like all these fancy photos, and then nobody could do that to my phone. And she sees notifications. Even you wouldn't want to see all the pictures on my phone. No, no, no.
SPEAKER_03It's just it's weird that like it got uploaded that way, but along with that got uploaded like notifications.
SPEAKER_00But I think that that just goes to show you how much of a boy scout he may have been, that he can just be tr so trustworthy. Although I have a note on that. Because it pings, his phone pings, and there's a message That's what I'm saying, yeah. And that was two years before.
SPEAKER_03So he gets a notification from not Smitten, but a different dating app. It was like BPM or something like that, like the the acronym of the dating app. But it was a dating app like bitches per minute, maybe bitches per minute, because that was Mandy Harrison talking to him. Right. Because like it literally, like the notification goes off and you see Mandy, and then it's like, hey, I haven't heard from you in a while, or some shit like that. And Dawn's kind of taken aback, and she's just like, Oh. Because prior to that, as she was like asking him questions, he's like, Are you um she was saying, like, are you married? Do you have kids? And right, right. He's like showed like the family photo that was on his desk. Right. And so she's aware that he's married, she's aware that he has kids, and then she's aware to the fact that like this random woman, Mandy, is like messaging him. And I don't know if she knew but you could put it together, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_00Right, and so that that was that was something that I didn't catch on my first viewing was the time frame. Okay.
SPEAKER_03I didn't catch because you would think it's six months beforehand, where like that's when Sophie told him that she was cheating on him, and that's when we know that he was starting to talk to Emma.
SPEAKER_00Right, and that even comes up, so we know that that's after because she So like that's the thing that confused me is the message from Mandy Harrison because I can't imagine that this is somebody that he was speaking to before he was married and had kids. That's a long time to 10, 12 years at least at that point.
SPEAKER_03It seemed like maybe they matched and he said hi and she said hi, and they had like a very, very quick like two, three cards exchanged, and that's it.
SPEAKER_00Those dating apps probably weren't even around 12 years ago or ish, right?
SPEAKER_03Oh no, this was it had to be recent. So that's maybe it was like a month or a couple of weeks ago. Why was he even on them? I know, and that's the part that like I try to keep in the back of my head. I made that as my note all the way at the end. I was like, intentions, yeah. And that's a big thing behind like this whole episode is everybody's specific intentions. It was just weird. I don't know. So, anyway, along with the flashbacks, um we then see like in the next part of that flashback, we see Dawn at home. She it looks like she got home from work like someday. I don't know if it was the same day, but she got home. It might have been the same day, honestly. I think it was the same day. I should have picked up on like her outfit.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it was a little hard to tell the time durations.
SPEAKER_03Probably I'm trying to think like what she was wearing that day because I've when she came home, she walked right into her garage where her husband Ed was, which is like another introduction of like Ed to us, the viewer, and we find out he's really into like model trains and all that shit. And he was like going off about like some like sound notification on his model train in his garage, and she was just like don't just like dinner. Yeah, exactly. But she was wearing like it almost looked like she was wearing scrubs. Because I looked at it and I was like, Is that scrubs? It's like a very flowery top with a V-neck and a short sleeve and solid colored pants. Like, I thought you were a secretary, not a nurse, right? Right, or somebody in the hospital setting. It just like looked like off to me, like super super fast, and I'm like, whatever. Like, that's me overanalyzing, but it could have been the same day. She went inside, they had dinner, and he's like, Gotta get back to my bottle trains, like gotta get back at work, and she's just like, What the fuck? And she goes off to her computer, she's playing fucking solitaire, drinking a whole ass bottle of wine by herself, and she Hey, no judgment on that, because no, no, no, I've got Scoop Dog looking at me like bitch, you gonna finish his wine? It's the whole sitting on your computer playing solitaire, pouring the bottle into a glass, like, and then realizing you finished the bottle, like that whole moment just like portrays loneliness. Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, and like and you can tell like bad for her that her husband, even at that point, that he loves her, but I can understand her side of it also.
SPEAKER_00She's she doesn't have a hobby like he has that he's addicted to the trains, yeah. Well, she's like working home, about to, yeah.
SPEAKER_03So, like, there is that disconnect in their marriage that I'm I'm almost positive that I noted. Yeah, Ed and Dawn are like disconnected in that sense. Like, yeah, he loves her, it's clear that they have a loving relationship, but there's something missing, and it's more on Dawn's part that Ed can't recognize, or he's just too oblivious to say. But she gets the idea of going into the dating app, and so she types in like it was D D A R So Dater Dater, yeah. Cause I I took a picture of it on my computer because I just wanted to have all the information, and she types in Nick Chabot, like the last name C-H-A-B-O-T or Chabit.
SPEAKER_00I would look at that and say Chabot, but I was like So is that the name that he used on like the Dater website? Right, so that that's what Mandy knew, right? Yeah, so he was already using a fake name, yeah.
SPEAKER_03And um maybe we missed this. Maybe you missed it, and maybe I missed it with like our triple double viewings of like those first episodes when Mandy was like around. Did she say she was talking to Nick Chabat or China? I yeah, I don't know. Because that that was Emma's episode. That was the mistress, because Emma's whole thing was that she was talking to Danny, whatever, right? Walters. Yeah, but that's the thing.
SPEAKER_00The names were always different. And this one, it was the same first name but different last name, which makes me think that this is definitely something that Nick set up to not be found.
SPEAKER_03It's weird though, because like he uses all his like it's a different name, but it's still him because in the dating profile, and I like took a picture of like the part on Don's computer when she logs in, because she just uses like I think Butch Brewer as the password. Yeah, and it gets him in.
SPEAKER_00And she's surprised when she gets when she gets in.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, she's like, oh my god, it was that easy, like shit. So, anyway, she's in, she's on Nick's dating profile. She knew his last name from the notification she saw at work. So it says on his interest that he's interested in volleyball, fitness, and coaching is the first three. Like, what the fuck are you doing? This is why Simon found you so easily. Yeah. I mean, come on. Come the fuck on. Like, why would you do that? I just like I uh and then he puts occupation architect. Why would you be into coaching if you're an architect? Wouldn't it be like buildings? What do you think? There's not buildings on here at all. Cycling, friendships, kayaking, long walks, sports.
SPEAKER_00Like what do you think Dawn's motivation was in logging in at that first time?
SPEAKER_03I think she was curious into the life of who Nick was. Like, he's an attractive person. I think she recognized that. She sees that like he was with an attractive woman, like and she even makes a note like your kids are cute, like, no wonder, like when you get like you two together or something. She said something like that. So she may be thinking, like, what is this attractive man, the happy marriage, doing on the dating app? And the thought was nosy bitch.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean, honestly, I would have been curious too. Yeah, no, I'm I'm sure.
SPEAKER_03I mean, I wouldn't have taken the next step. I was just gonna say, I wouldn't have gone to the extent of what Dawn did, but like I would be like, I want to read all the salacious things. That's like some shit that we would do. If we sit them back here with a bottle of wine, we'd be like, let's get into their dating app. I know. Pictures, right? That's what I mean.
SPEAKER_00And we'd be like, who the fuck are they talking to? We wouldn't do anything. No, no, no, no, I wouldn't, I would never because I I I have to I have to stop at being nosy because otherwise my conscience would not be clear.
SPEAKER_03There's there's like observing, and then there's taking part, and this is the one that Dawn actually crosses. So once she's in the dating app, she sees all this shit. There's like it shows on the side that he has like two direct messages coming through, and it pops up. You really went deep. I love it. I literally took a picture. I love it. I literally took a picture, and it's like it's a teal background, and then on like the side it says dashboards like news, your matches, direct messages, preferences, edit profile, and advanced searches. Like it's like a legit like website thing. Yeah, yeah. There's like a whole ass red notification on teal, like it popped out to me. I zoomed in and it says direct messages. But that's I did my research.
SPEAKER_00We have to make sure we post this. Let me make a note so that we remember to post that screenshot. Oh, I will.
SPEAKER_03I will, and then like the caption's gonna be like Wonder Who's Messaging Nick. Or who do you think was messaging Nick? Listen to our next episode published tomorrow.
SPEAKER_00Right. Well, we are we are going to do um just a little FYI. We are planning to do a recap episode. And if you are hearing this, you may still have time. May. I don't I don't know because um we plan to do a little bit of a live episode. And if you'd like to take part, send us a message so that we can get you a link if there's still time. And you know how to find us. And if you don't, I mean, come on.
SPEAKER_03You hear the spiel at the end of our episode.
SPEAKER_00Like if you're on episode eight, this isn't your first rodeo here. I hope not. Assassin's lips.com. You find us there. Um, but yeah, so Dawn and her hijacking his profile.
SPEAKER_03Profile hijacker. You know, if Mandy didn't then message again when Dawn logged in, I don't know if she would have ever known. So Dawn ends up answering. Right, she answers. Yeah, but like if Mandy never messaged in that moment, do you think like she would have gone into the messages and then like purposely messaged someone back and like taken that whole ass step to go into the messages without it popping up?
SPEAKER_00Maybe not that night. But I think eventually she would have she would have gotten there. Like it would have been festering at her, like I wonder who. Right. Okay. Right. So anyway. Because there probably would have been another female eventually that matched or that sent him a message. That's if he was actively using the app, but I don't think he was actively using it. Okay, but if you are on an app, even if you're not like I don't I don't I'm not on them, I'm not sure how it works, but I would imagine that like even if you're not swiping left or right on a person, if I see your profile, I can still send you a message and say, hey, you know, XYZ. So that's what I'm saying. Even if he wasn't doing anything, if Dawn can still log in, she can still see if he receives a message.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's true.
SPEAKER_00So if somebody sends him a message, that's what I'm saying. Like I think that eventually she would have gotten there because she would have seen one of the messages, or somebody may send um, I don't know how it works, like a a like or poke or whatever. So this is a fucking old. No, no, that's a hope.
SPEAKER_03Oh no, I get it. It's fine. No, but you would have gotten some kind of push notification on your phone because obviously he set that up because that's how Don originally found out something was going on because he got the push notification on his phone.
SPEAKER_00And this leads you into And I didn't even think about this, but you just made a such a great fucking point. How is he not receiving notifications?
SPEAKER_03How does he not know that something is going on unless she went into the uh hold on, she went into his either edit profile or preference settings and took off that notification. But I feel like that could be- You know what? If she's photoshopping, which like sorry I'm giving shit away. If she's photoshopping photos, she's obviously woken up with computer technology being that she's an she addresses herself as an old lady to Kai when Kai knocks on her door. Thank you. Um oh, thank you again.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, no, but but that also I mean she's obviously a little computer savvy because the voice mod modification. No, she's but what I'm saying is up maybe Nick was already kind of ignoring Mandy. And so even if he saw the text messages come in, he's only seeing her side. Maybe he just ignored them. Like maybe he was totally oblivious. Because obviously, if he logged in and said, like, wait, I didn't respond.
SPEAKER_02Hold on.
SPEAKER_03When the initial notification came in when Don was setting up Nick's phone, did it say Mandy? And then did it show the message, or did it just say you have a message from Mandy? It might have said you just you have a message. Like it hid what the actual message was.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Because it's like Which is still a little ballsy considering that your password is your dead hamster, and also it's like your wife can see that.
SPEAKER_03If you're in bed, okay, so she was doing all the messaging at night. This is like a habit that Dawn had. She would then go into her, like she would eat at night. Yeah, she would go into like the I don't know, like the computer room, whatever. Like it seemed like that was their room with the computer, like her little spot. She would do the shit at night before bed. Isn't Nick in bed at that point with his wife and his phone's going off about Dater? Thank you. And how is Sophie not like keen to what's going on either?
SPEAKER_00Motherfucker, who is texting you? Who is blowing up your phone? Who the fuck is Mandy?
SPEAKER_03Unless Nick went in. You know, and this is the thing. Did Nick go into his settings on his phone and turn off the push notifications? Or wouldn't you just delete the fucking app? And you know what? If he deleted the app, he didn't delete his profile. Maybe Nick deleted the app on his phone when it was going off a lot, and we don't like this. Is like a part of the show that wasn't shown. Yeah. This is like assumption.
SPEAKER_00Because that is incongruent. I'm trying to sound smart. I don't know if it worked. But that that part doesn't make sense. Like it makes sense that she can go in with his password and continue to impersonate him. But it doesn't make sense that he's still not still receiving messages and and wondering what the fuck. If I saw my text message go off, it doesn't matter who it is. If I saw my text message go off, at some point I'm either gonna check them, or you know, whatever, but how do you not realize somebody is answering on your behalf? Or why is somebody texting you over and over and over and over if you haven't had any contact with them?
SPEAKER_03So I'm thinking that maybe when she initially messaged Mandy back, and this is like the part of the episode that we're still kind of at, in like chronological in chronological order, we kind of like stopped here, but like maybe when Mandy answered back twice, she was like, Good to see you, like uh good to hear from you, like what are you up to? And then Dawn messaged back like I'm back. Yeah. So maybe when those two notifications came in, he kind of looked at his phone and he was like, I'm I'm not bothered with this shit anymore. Let me like delete the app. I don't that would delete the messages from coming in at it. Wouldn't delete his profile, right? It would just delete it on his phone, but there's still the desktop version.
SPEAKER_00I guess my thought is if let's say there was somebody that I haven't spoken to in a couple of months or a week or whatever, okay, let's say that that person's name was Jack. You know, just pulled it out of my my ass right here, right? Yeah, you know. But then and not that it's like a romantic thing, but it could be, it could not be. But if I start getting and I haven't received any messages, and then a week has gone by, a month has gone by, and I'm seeing like a couple of messages here, and then 10 minutes later, another message, and then 10 minutes later, I'm gonna be like, what the fuck? My curiosity is piqued at that point. I'm gonna look at the messages. I must have to do that. Even if I'm gonna delete it, I'm gonna look at the messages.
SPEAKER_03But what if he was so far removed from what he initially intended to do? Which, like, true, we don't know.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and there are some people who will be, I and I I know some of these people that'll be like, I'm I'm so over this person, I'm so done with this person, I don't want to be friends with them, I don't want to be in a relationship with them, I don't want to talk to them anymore, but like delete and delete, they delete everything, and I'm just like, but you didn't want to read it first? Nope. I'm like, I don't know how you could do that. Exactly. I would want to read it first and then delete, be like, I want to know. I want to see what you're thinking first before I'm just like I can't live in limbo. But some people are like some people. Or ignorant to what's going on, I'm just not one of those people, so I guess from my perspective, I can understand what you're saying like rationally. I just I can't co-sign that behavior. Oh no, and like I I couldn't either, but I'm thinking that Nick's so like in his own world that maybe he's just like yeah, like a Tinder, uh a clickbait Tinder profile, a dater profile.
SPEAKER_03Like maybe he's like, I'm in this new job, I have shit going on, like I'm not gonna fuck around with this dating app anymore. Ignore them, like the messages mean nothing to me because like Mandy means nothing to me. Dilly. Right. Even though we have no clue why he's on the app in the first place. It would make sense if it was in the timeline that we're supposed to be understanding in Sophie's episode.
SPEAKER_00And I wish if that would that would be my one qu I don't I don't want to say like criticism, but that would be one of the things that I wish that they explored is By the end of the series you realize that Nick wasn't this guy that they made him out to be. He he was a good guy, he was everything that you want in a partner, in a man, and whatever. But so then why was he on the app? I I wish that that was explained because if he had gotten on the app right after Sophie told him about her affair, it makes a lot of things.
SPEAKER_03But it would have made sense.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. Yeah, it would make sense, and so you can understand how he may be thinking fuck it, like whatever. Maybe I'm not gonna do anything, but but there I guess there is a thrill and like a secret to doing that. And maybe he's maybe he doesn't want to physically cheat on her, but I can understand also that the the um oh my god, what if the mechanics of of that like I'm gonna get back at her this way, yeah.
SPEAKER_03No, but like what if this is something that Sophie was aware of all along? Maybe they were swingers. That's what I mean. Like, okay, so I want to talk about the last last scene of the show, but we can't yet because we should stick to chronological order. All right, but I want to make note that we're gonna circle back to the last last scene. All right, so before the screen goes white.
SPEAKER_00Dawn, we're still at the part where Dawn is getting into his his profiles and she must be. And then eventually she kills him, and now she's cut, and now what were you gonna say? No, I'm just kidding. No, I was like, what the fuck? The end.
SPEAKER_03Oh wow. So anyway, we'll get back to it. But so Dawn's messaging back Mandy, and this becomes a consistent behavior, and she's even doing it at work, she's fucking messaging at her dad. Yeah, and while she's doing this bullshit and she's like, she's talking to Ma I'm I think she was still talking to Mandy and she was still only on dater, she gets a fucking call from Sophie. But the thing is that they never say when this is. Right.
SPEAKER_00But this had to be like early or late. No, no, no, but you know when it is. Because Sophie calls looking for Nick, and she says, Okay, um, if I find him, I'll tell him to call you. And then she gets up from her computer and goes to his office, and that's when he's drinking, and he's upset because she told him that she cheated.
SPEAKER_03Which we know was six months before he was missing, and he was missing in April 2020, so it's gonna be late.
SPEAKER_00It's within the last six months, and it's probably still very shortly after she told him, if he was that broken up about it, like to bring it to work with him. Wait, hold on.
SPEAKER_03So if she was still messaging Mandy, then she was talking to Mandy for a year and a half. A year and a half. What the fuck? I thought Mandy said, like, in her interview, like, no, I stopped talking to him like really short because he was like pulling all these like like very like um like facade type like games with me, like trying to paint the picture, and she was like, I wasn't like falling for it. I don't know. I like that part doesn't really make sense either, but and Emma said in her episode that she was only talking with Nick for six months because it started around that time, and then when he went missing, that was the end of their relationship.
SPEAKER_00Right, but right before Sophie calls, that's when we see her making new profiles because she's like dragging the few.
SPEAKER_03Right, that's when she was making the smitten um dating app. Okay, and she's like, looking good, Danny. Yeah, looking good, Danny Walters. Oh my god, she makes the whole yeah, yeah. She like cropped Sophie out of like that beach photo, right? Right, whatever it was.
SPEAKER_00So she she finds Nick and he's drowning his sorrows. Um and and then he tells her about what happened with Sophie and the affair.
SPEAKER_03Dawn calls herself Dr. Dawn, and I wanted to vomit. She's so cringy, like throughout this whole episode, she's very, very cringy, she's very fake. She she needs she needs mental help.
SPEAKER_00I I I f by the end of the episode I felt so bad for her. And and and not because like she necessarily deserves it, but I we'll get into it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I just I I I really felt for her. But like part of me was like, Yeah, bitch, you deserve that for what you did.
SPEAKER_03Like you ended up right where you should be, but then part of me felt bad because she was taking active steps to portray that she was somebody else who's like real that she knew. Me people catfish people online a lot.
SPEAKER_00I recorded a profile yesterday. Oh shit. Impersonating somebody I knew. They're like, hey, what's up? And I was like, okay, if this person is messaging me, it's definitely not that person.
SPEAKER_03Ew, oh my god. Ew, no, that's so weird. But it's like, if you're you're on the internet and like you're trying to catfish someone, and like let's say you're trying to catfish someone and you're supposed to be like a male catfishing someone, right? It's really easy to type in like attractive males and go to like the six-page or seventh-page Google images where nobody goes, steal someone's image that way, right? And so it's like, let's say, and this is I feel like this is like how catfishing works. Like, I've seen the show on MTV, like right, usually it's like fucking strangers, and they're like, Yeah, she shouldn't have needed to use a real person.
SPEAKER_00But she's literally using that fucking person that she knows. Like this is why I, if you know me in real life and we're Facebook friends, I'm not creating a new profile to be your friend. If you get a request for me, it's not me. I'm too lazy to make a new profile. But the point maybe Instagram, not Facebook. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_03Oh my god. But the point is, is like she was actively making choices. We all make choices, right? She was actively making choices to ruin a person's life that was right in front of her, and she knew that this wasn't gonna benefit me.
SPEAKER_00I mean, she could have even used his information in the sense of like, hey, I am a physical therapist, hey, I live in Oakland, California, I have two kids. She didn't have to use his picture because and she she didn't use his name, so why use his picture? I mean, I get it, he's an attractive guy, but he's not the only attractive guy in the whole world. So you're right. I mean, s i it is it a little bit malicious?
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I I mean, like, it's almost as if she was upset that he had this life that she maybe have wanted, not that like she felt like she was in the wrong like marriage or situation, but maybe she just wanted an exciting life and it seems like he had that. Yeah. It I and this is something that like And she could have used his name with a different picture then. She I mean, you know. It could have happened that I mean like I think the whole point was like she had access to these photos and not thinking a hundred percent. She wasn't like this. I think the whole point was like this didn't start off malicious, but it turned into it. So she wasn't she didn't have a plan from the beginning. So she was just following along with what she had, and so she was just kind of taking like the formula that was there, which was Nick's pictures with a different name, although it had all his same fucking traits except for the location, the job, um, and then moving it to a different site, right? So that was her going to Smitten and making the account. Um, and on Smitten is where she talks to Maggie Oxley, which we know is Sarah Burton, and that's where she talks to Emma Beasley. Yeah. And so, anyway, like Sophie calls looking for Nick, she goes to his office, finds him drinking, and he confides in her and tells her that he found out that Sophie was cheating. He said that he wishes he was a big enough man, and he says that don't think I haven't noticed. Oh right. He said he just like kind of like out of the blue after he confides, and she's like, I'm Dr. Don, you can tell me fucking anything. Like he's like, Well, Don, don't think I haven't noticed. And she goes, Noticed what? And you see the whole ass expression on her face. Yeah. And he's like, How kind of a person you are. And so, like, in that moment, I really thought he was gonna say something about the dating apps, but that that just shows proof that he deleted it, right? Right, right. So it it's it was so difficult sitting through that scene, like Nick, you were right fucking there.
SPEAKER_00I know, and oh my god, and he's just so clueless, and he's like, That you're such a good person.
SPEAKER_03Like and in turn, we see her then go home and start talking to Emma. She even that's the night that like she was. Yeah, that was the night that she was using, like, the voice translator. So, like in episode 7, The Sun, when Ethan calls up Emma and says, like, and Ethan has the voice recording of his dad talking about pancakes, like from like the iPad, the family iPad, and so he plays the voice recording for Emma, and she's like, No, that's not your dad's voice. Um, like that's that's not Danny's voice, that's not the voice that she recognized, which was a weird scene for me, but I get it now after watching episode eight. Right, right, right. It makes a little bit more sense. Um it was the fact that Dawn was using uh like a a voice translator to make herself like have like a very masculine voice to then talk to Emma on the phone because Emma sends her a text like I need to talk to you. Yeah, like I need to hear your voice.
SPEAKER_00I know Emma is I'm sorry, but that I mean I know like okay. For all the things that we know about Emma and all her weird behavior and her earrings. Yeah, um, it just it seemed like I I need you so much and I love you, and like she's so gullible and like she's very um It's like I need to talk to you right now.
SPEAKER_03I don't I don't know the word to describe somebody who gives in very easily to other people. Yeah, she's very trustworthy. She's very, very trustworthy on no basis of trust. Whatever that word is, that's how I'm feeling. I mean gullible is a yeah, like gullible, naive, like irresponsible, like uh not aware, like or unaware.
SPEAKER_00But she so, like you said, she wants to speak to Danny.
SPEAKER_03You can't call it to K Televen and um and Dawn clicks a little icon on her computer that changes to a male voice, and she literally puts on a whole ass fucking headset with a microphone that you know she had to purchase on Amazon. So she's like, she's now this is becoming malicious. Like, she knows she's doing okay. I'm saying that we're malicious because she knows she's doing something wrong. She's continuing to not only fuck with one person's lives, but multiple people's lives, and that's malicious behavior. Right. So she's doing things that she knows she's not supposed to that will affect other people. She knows that she's processing it and she's still going along with it. Although I don't know if she's fully processing it, but honestly, she seems like a mentally sane person. She just seems like she would like her little. That's what she seems fine. She does like nothing's like, look, people with mental illness can seem fine. That's not what I'm saying at all. But she doesn't give away that maybe there's something a little bit off about her that would bring her to this behavior that we could be like, oh shit, like she was triggered by a situation because of her underlying conditions. Right, I see. And so it's not an excuse, but it's like we as viewers understand how maybe she could have got to here. Like if we knew that she had a background of catfishing and then this fell into her lap, it would make sense.
SPEAKER_00I I feel like just to continue on your point, it definitely did escalate, but at what point do you say to yourself, This is too much and I need to stop?
SPEAKER_03That's like the part that wasn't there in her head. Like that was the part that was missing.
SPEAKER_00Because it's one I mean, it's one thing that you're basically breaking into somebody else's account to impersonate them. I mean, not that that's right in any way, but you're breaking into this person's account, you're you're speaking on their behalf, but then you made separate accounts in this person's name. Then you talked to other people as this person, then you not just spoke uh digitally, like uh you know, texting, chatting, like you're literally verbally talking, you're verbally talking, and then and this person is saying that they love you, and you're still like, Yeah, I love you too, and one day we'll be together.
SPEAKER_03Like And so for Emma, and it it quickly during this scene as she's ending the conversation because she hears her husband come in, Emma goes, Is that your wife? and she goes, Yeah. Yes, and then she hangs out. Like meaning Dawn. Right. And so Emma's we now know that Emma's keen to the fact that Nick has a wife. Right. Right. And so this must all be to the fact that he has chosen.
SPEAKER_00Well, because we talked about this before.
SPEAKER_03We did. And so Emma is aware that she is doing something that she's not supposed to do, and Emma is still doing just like the same thing with Don, right? So it's weird to see two people knowing they're fucking up and still going along with it.
SPEAKER_00I mean, Emma is not in the right. No, but Emma was clearly wronged. But Emma. Emma, I'll give her this. She, her fault is that she's believing what quote unquote Danny Walters is telling her, which is I'm not happy and I'm leaving after the kids graduate, or something to that effect.
SPEAKER_03Oh no, and like honestly, I I I truly feel like like if I was a person where like my spouse was cheating on me with somebody else, I can't be mad at the person they're cheating on me with because it's not their responsibility. Just because they're just a person doing what a person is doing, like dating, talking to others, interested. And if it's like if it's my spouse like going and doing something, that's the person that I'm gonna have fault with and be angry with. Like, and that's why I feel like I can't be angry with Emma so much because she's not really doing anything wrong. Just the fact that she's aware of what's going on is interesting. That she feels morally sound to continue with it because I know if I was in that situation and I found out like the person that I'm talking to is married, I don't I don't that's not a turn-on for me. Like, I would just be like, eh, like Emma's not looking for a quick hookup. Emma seems like she's the kind of person only looking for love. And so if you think that you're finding love in a married man, like that's just Emma's problem.
SPEAKER_00And I think separate from what's going on here. A lot of it is exactly like you said, is she's gulmable and she's naive, and but Dawn, on the other hand, knows exactly what's going on. She knows that this is all bullshit, she knows that uh Nick aside, she is leading Emma on and completely fucking with this woman's life. Yeah, and for what? For her own shits and giggles. Yeah, so like that is a hundred percent wrong. I mean on so many levels.
SPEAKER_03It is, and the worst part about like Dawn and well, Dawn, aka Danny, aka Nick, right? Like, or Dawn, aka Nick, aka Danny. Um, like going along with like their interactions with Emma is the fact that Dawn must have like what's that called? Like, I was gonna say sex it, but like they must have like spoke about the sexual interaction that they wanted to have with them for Emma to have this picture and the flashback that we get in our heads of the first scene of Emma's episode where she's where she's in bed and Danny's like, I'm gonna go take a shower, and then like I'm making us coffee or some shit, and she's just like all lovey in bed, like yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And it had to be painted for Emma to I don't think Emma like fabricated that all on and even when we see Dawn talk with Emma on the phone using the voice changer, I forgot exactly what Dawn says to her, but Emma responds like I want to be with you so bad. And she's like, all of you, yeah, and she's like, all of me. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So like it really stands right there, and the way that like the producers like chose to put that same flashback that we saw in Emma's episode of Emma and Nick, like and their sexual interaction, like to bring it back right after Don has to hang up the phone because Ed's coming in, just showed me that that was all Dawn's implanting into Emma's head. Like that that's what Dawn did to Emma. Dawn manipulated Emma into thinking that this was something that they had together. Right. And who even fucking knows if like they actually had oh, that's what I was thinking of phone sex. Like, I don't know why I couldn't think of like that term. What if they actually had that? Yeah, and so like like Emma could have been in bed and this would like was verbally said to her, and then at the end of like their like conversation, Dawn's like, and now I'm gonna make you a cup of coffee, like and like Dawn could just be kind of saying everything that she wants in her marriage and living that out, like and this brings us to the next scene because after she gets off the phone, oh after she gets off the phone time, it's quote unquote bedtime, and like you come into bed and she's like, wait a second, honey.
SPEAKER_00Right, and then you see her get all lovey-dovey with him, and and then the next thing you see is them afterwards, yeah, you know, which was so strange for like that clearly says like this is she's turned on by this.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I was gonna say this is like her ML, like she's turned on by seducing others, but now that gave her some kind of motive.
SPEAKER_00So now here's the thing though, because me with my psychology degree is she turned on by manipulating others, is she turned on because she is internalizing these like pretending not maybe she's not trying to be malicious, right? But the fact that this woman on the other line is saying all these nice things to her after she's obviously feeling lonely from her own husband has made her feel good. And and look, let's let's call this bade a spade as a woman. I can't speak on behalf of men, but I'm pretty sure most women will agree with me. As a woman, when you feel good, you're a lot more willing to to give extra, you know, like you feel better.
SPEAKER_03When you feel good, you feel b you feel good, you know, like that's like but honestly, like when you're feeling confident and motivated, and and I think the most important word that we can use here is love, anybody's willing to put in the extra effort anywhere. I mean, like that's like she was internally motivated to spark her marriage, and in that it would be like honestly, like the way that like she initiated sex with her husband just seemed like this is not something that happens on a weekly basis, or maybe a bi-weekly basis. He was just like he dropped his World War II book and he had a thick World War II book, and he was like, Oh shit. So, like you know tonight. Oh my god. So I mean, like, I just going back to like Dawn's intentions and you know, and the word that I've been consistently using in this episode, malicious, from our point of view, yes, but from her point of view, she continued with this even though she knew it was wrong, because the overwhelming feeling here wasn't guilt, it was love. Th there was um um dopamine running through her bud. I was gonna say, like dopamine or some kind of like her serotonin levels were up, like some No. I'm saying the wrong word. That's serotonin. You know what you mean. No, serotonin's for sleep. What was the other no, is it melanin. That's not melancholy. Melatonin. No, I was right then. Her serotonin levels were up. Like she was feeling all the emotions and the love, and she was she was on a high. Yeah. And it was you know, coming down off of that, which actually happens in the next scene, um, was really hard to watch from her perspective. But the worst part is is like now we're we were feeling guilty for the victim. There's a phrase for that, I forgot what the phrase is, but we were You think of like Stockholm Syndrome.
SPEAKER_00No.
SPEAKER_03I Well that's Stockholm Syndrome is more like what they're doing. I was gonna say victim shaming, but we're not victim. I mean No.
SPEAKER_00We're Stockholm Syndrome. We're for the perpetrator. That's what we're doing. Like you're a kidnapped victim, but you kind of feel for your kidnapper.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, like you're afraid to leave them because then they're gonna be lonely, even though it's like they're gonna be kidnapping from the kids.
SPEAKER_00And I have to poop in a bucket, but if I leave he'd be lonely. Oh, no, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Oh my god. Yeah, I think it's more that we're we're we're like Stockholm majority. We're sympathizing with the perpetrator. That's what we're doing.
SPEAKER_00And so it it feels wrong to be sympathetic. It's like whatever Munchausen by proxy is, but for perpetrators.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So I I mean, like, that's like that's I should know this stuff.
SPEAKER_03That no, that's a like a good way to describe it. It's just it's feeling bad for the perpetrator, which is something really, really hard to deal with.
SPEAKER_00And and but this brings us back to like Simon's episode. Because Simon's episode, we went back and forth like somebody but oh, yeah, for him.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. It's and I mean, like, look, this is something that like we deal with also, like, in daily life.
SPEAKER_00It's like because people are not just one thing, and and even if you do something wrong, it doesn't necessarily make you a bad person. It's like bad person versus versus bad act.
SPEAKER_03But but if you do something wrong by accident, no, but if you do something wrong purposely and you know what's going on, but this is like the issue with Dawn. Right. She's doing it purposely, but she's not doing it like because she's doing it maliciously, even though it seems like it from the viewer's perspective, without thinking about what she's thinking about. Like if you're if you're sympathetic to her and if you're if you try to put yourself in her shoes, you're like, okay, well, I'm not getting love from anywhere. She says, like, early on in the episode, like when when she asks Nick about his kids, and he asks her the same question back as like a social formality, she said that like she couldn't have kids.
SPEAKER_00So she's like, Yeah, we tried, it's just a little more no kids.
SPEAKER_03Her husband's into model trains, and what does she have? Solitaire, white wine, and wine, like that's what I mean. Like, I feel like I wish her life was more fulfilling. The beer or the dog. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_00I feel like after their romp, he offers her a glass of water. And she's like, that's what I needed. Yeah, and then uh she's laying in bed waiting for him to come back with her water, and she hears the notification. Like the ping, yeah. So she gets up and finds him sitting at her computer.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. And he's like, What the fuck is this? Like, and he has like a reaction that I think anybody in that situation finding out that their spouses, it looks like his spouse was cheating on him with people online. And she's like, Who's I'm like, I'm sorry, Ed was like, as like he's looking at the computer, he's like, Who's Danny? Who's Emma? And she's like, It's a game, and he's like, No, like I'm not that stupid. And she's like, maybe she her in that moment was probably like, Hey, I think I can get away with this. I think I can like fool him. But he was too look, it's 2020. If you're even as like an older person, because that's how she addresses herself, and I'm sure that's how he would address himself, they look like they were in like their late 60s, early 70s. Yeah, at that point, like you know what the fuck a dating app is. Right. You you should even if you never use one, yeah, you've heard of them. You should know that, like, this is how this works, this isn't a game. Like, you should be aware of some things, and Ed doesn't seem stupid. No. So he seems like he really likes trains, but he's not a stupid man, and so he's angry as fuck, and he leaves the house and he's yelling at her, and I I sympathize with Ed. I completely agree with his reaction. Like, I am on Ed's side right here. I really, I honestly feel better for Ed, period. I know what he like I know what has transpired with Ed's behaviors and emotions, but I feel like Ed was completely wronged. And he was just anyway, so he was hurt, he was angry, he was like, He was reacting with his emotions, yeah, and it was a lot for him to understand, so I get it.
SPEAKER_00Um he left.
SPEAKER_03And as he's leaving, Emma like she's not getting messages from Emma at the moment, but it wasn't Emma. Yeah, like Emma stopped kind of messaging her in that moment, but you hear a different notification sound, and it's from I guess like a different app. I think it's like the dater app or something. Like there's a different sound, which to me sounds like it's a different like interface or like a different website. Anyway, Maggie Oxley messages her. She's like, I haven't heard from you in a while, where have you been? And so she's like, I miss you, and like I need to talk, and that's when Um, aka Nick, is just like I didn't sign up to be your personal counselor or your personal psychologist. And these are the messages that Ben is saying in his like interview, like not in his interview, in his like news broadcast in the episode The Reporter. Like this, like this is what Ben Park found and read. Right. Or had read in like the interpretation or whatever. Yep. But we've seen these messages, we're not like shy of these messages. It just really like now we're seeing why they were sent, how they were sent, and it's because Dawn was upset about her situation and her husband's normal fucking reaction. I I think that Ed should have acted more. I would have been so much more angry. I think he was instead of like I'm not saying that anybody should hit their spouse, and I'm not saying that there should be any kind of abuse, but I'm really surprised he didn't like get so angry that he maybe like hit her or threw shit. He didn't get physical in any way, he removed himself from the situation.
SPEAKER_00I think Stella is critiquing your critique.
SPEAKER_03But he ran away. Yeah, I know Stella. So he got in the car and he went away. Yeah, yeah, he drove away. And as she's seeing his lights like flash, like in because like the room that she was in with the house, whatever, you know what I mean. Yeah. Um, that's when she literally messages Maggie, Oxley, aka Sarah Burton, like Yeah, just do it, I don't care.
SPEAKER_00Right, because she said, uh, I told you what I would do, and she's like, I don't care, do it.
SPEAKER_03Is that a threat? It's more than a threat. Do it, I don't care. And slams the computer. Slams the computer, cries again because she was crying until like she was crying when like everything went down with her husband until she saw that Maggie Oxla's messages were coming in. But regardless, um Wait, hold on a second. So then when Maggie, like Sarah Maggie, was like talking on the phone and Simon was like spying on her from work, she was talking to Nick, aka Dawn. It was like during the day. So what the fuck is Dawn doing at work? Dad. Was Dawn doing that at work? Yeah, that's weird.
SPEAKER_00I mean, we saw her doing the chatting and making the profiles at work.
SPEAKER_03So she was talking, but Maggie, Maggie Sarah, I'm just gonna call her Sarah because that's actually her name. Sarah was talking to somebody on the phone, and we know that it was during the day because it was live and because um Simon was at work and what the fuck? Yeah, but so this was midday. So did Dawn have a day off and she was like, Let's fuck with Sarah? Or was she at work and said God a blast?
SPEAKER_00And she put it on her calendar.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I mean, like, think about that.
SPEAKER_00Like, think about her sitting next to Linda at the secretary desk being like, But Linda wasn't there the day that we saw her, so maybe it was like Linda wasn't there and she was bored or it was a slow day. How could she get away with that shit though? I don't know. That part I can't tell you.
SPEAKER_03I I I don't know. Like, it's there's okay, there's not supposed to be a hundred percent continuity in any show, and especially this one, being that it's a limited series, but I feel like something is missing and it's quite obvious. But anyway, let's move on. Um, so Ed leaves. That's when Don tells Sarah to kill herself, pretty much, not directly, but she says, I don't care, do whatever you want, which is killing herself. And this is now flashing back to like we we move on from this time period, which I'm gonna say is like four, yeah, it was four months before Nick was actually kidnapped. We find that out in the brother episode, episode six. And so now we are at a flashback of Dawn and Ed sitting down, watching TV at night, and they're seeing like geo nicking and trying to find next location and how this became like an online phenomenon. And Ed turns to Dawn and says, Is this part of your game still? And she's like, No, and this is when Ed's like, we need to get rid of the evidence because people are gonna find out what happened, and what happened we find out later on is that like this is the series of events, like Ed starts like taking all her shit and starts like smashing it, and he's like, any device that you were messaging, anybody like what on Nick on, like, even though like we didn't kill Nick and he's just missing, it's gonna look like it because of like all the tampering that you did with his personal his personal information. And so as Ed's destroying the shit, he has like a hammer and he has it like um he has like her computer and like whatever in like a garbage bag and he's smashing shit up, they get a knock at the door, and the knock at the door is Nick, and this is when he escapes from Simon, and then he like immediately runs to Don's house because in Nick's head he's like, I'm literally doing what I told Simon, I'm confronting the person that has done this to his sister who made his sister kill himself. He goes to Don's house, he knocks at the door, and Don's like, Nick? And he walks in, he's all bloody in the face, he goes right to like the kitchen sink, and he's like, you know, like scooping up water to like put in his mouth, like because he's thirsty, whatever, and he confronts her and he's like, You're the only one who knew that like Sophie cheating on me. You're the only one who knew all my information. Right. Like, like, no, he goes, you know where I was? I was kidnapped by Simon Burton, and she's like, and he's like, I think you know her. Sarah Burton, his sister, and she's like, No, and he looks at her and he goes, Maggie Oxley, and her face changes, just like in that, like in that scene where Nick's like, don't think I have a notice. Like, her face just drops, right? And this is when he comes down of what she's doing, and he's holding her, just like Pia said, like, when Nick's mad, he can get physical, and he's holding her, shaking her. Ed sees what's going on, he saws the hammer in his hand, whacks him on the back of the head. He drops his knees, he turns around to look at Ed, like, what the fuck? And Ed hits him again in like the head, and Nick does. Yeah. And this is how Nick's dead. Although I thought he had a bullet wound in the back of his neck when they found him in the woods. I could have swore. I could have sworn I noted that, but anyway. Um, and Dawn looks up at Ed and she goes, What did you do? And she's like crying, you see like Nick's like headblood is on the floor and like whatever, and so now we're back at current day.
SPEAKER_01Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_03Um, so it's assumed that Ed dropped Nick's body in the woods. Yeah. Somebody found it not much long after. If they're hearing about geo nicking on the news before Nick's dead, it couldn't have been long before they found his body. Right. So anyway, Kai's still in their house. We go back back to put uh present day, I can't speak. We're back at present day. Kai's sitting at Don and Ed's kitchen table, and Don says something like, Do your mother and brother know that you're here? And he's like, Yeah. Right. Everybody knows. Exactly. Because I think he realized something was up.
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_03And they're like, Okay, well, we're gonna go get the keys, and uh, you stay here, we'll be right back. And that's when Yeah, because how many people does it take to get a set of car keys? Exactly, right? Like, I think she goes, I'm gonna grab a sweater too. And they both end up in their bedroom. Like, Ed and Dawn are in their bedroom. You see Ed go in his closet and take out a black box, and like you could tell it's like a gunbox. And Dawn goes, Dawn says something like, What do you think you're gonna do? And he's like, I'm getting us out of this mess because we're not going to jail. Which was so or he's like, Because I'm not going to jail. Because obviously Ed murdered Nick. Obviously, Ed was protecting his wife, and and you know, like I mean, Nick could have killed Don right there. According to Pia, he's fully capable of like being violent when he gets really, really angry, and he had reason to be. Um, and so like one may say that Ed was only protecting his wife, but there he could have just restrained Nick. He I don't know why he went and killed him. I don't I don't know why, like, even after the first hit, like Nick could have survived after that first hit. I don't know why he went back for a second. Yeah. Unless it was just all the emotion and rage of everything against his wife in that moment, and he took it out on Nick, like how Don took it out on Sarah. True. That's a good point. But anyway, um, they put Nick in not Nick, I'm sorry, they they get Kai in like their car, they're driving. But Kai's like willingly doing this. Um well he thinks that they're gonna take him home until they start driving like way out of the way, and they're like, Oh, it's a shortcut.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And Kai immediately, like you could tell he picks up on something, he tries to text on his phone. He has the fucking sound on his phone, so when he unlocks it, it's like and it's like and you hear like even when he's texting, he's like and as he's trying to like message Ethan or his mom or even like his Aunt Pia about what's going on, Stella, stop giving it away. Don takes Kai's phone and throws it out the window, and he's like, What are you doing? And she's just sitting there like shaking, sweating.
SPEAKER_00One of the notes that I have for this um part is that well, this part, and then going forward, is that as Kai is protesting, you you hear his voice crack a lot, and he's very whiny, and I feel like that was done to emphasize the fact that he's he's such like he's a baby. I mean, he's so little.
SPEAKER_03I feel like he was also doing that to portray that, like he's a kid, like it's not an adult. Like you're not you're not killing my dad, a full-fledged adult, you're killing a child now. Yep.
SPEAKER_00Which oh my god, like that's just wild. Right, so Kai doesn't know what happens exactly, but but he gets some. But he's he's he's aware that something is not right in this situation, yeah.
SPEAKER_03But he even knows, like, as this scene goes on, they bring him out to like their like trailer in the country. They have him like at like well actually like they restrain him, yeah, because like as they're getting out of the car, they're like, Kai, get out, and he's like, I'm not getting out. He's like buckled in the backseat, he's like, I'm not getting out, and that's when Ed holds up a gun, like the gun that Ed took from the house, to Kai's head, and he's like, Get out of the car. That's when he unbuckles. They have him sitting down at like the kitchen table, restrained. All while this is happening, Sophie, Pia, Detective Amari, and like the whole squad like meet at the address, which like the address that Kai found.
SPEAKER_00They're Dawn and Ed's house.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, like they're they've already left.
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_03And Sophie and Pia break in because like oh, they I'm sorry, they get there first, they break in, they realize like nobody's home, but they know that Kai had to be there, so they break in the back door, and as they're looking around the house to see like where the fuck everybody is, that's when Pia looks over and she recognizes like the photo of Don and Yeah, and she she's like, Oh my god, Sophie. And they're putting it together and they're just like, Holy shit. Anyway, as they're like putting the pieces together, Amari and his team breaks in, they're like, hands up or hands up Sylphie, whatever. So and they're just like standing there, like, no, it's us. And um then they're outside, they're trying to like figure out where everybody is, and somebody gets a call saying that they've spotted the family truck, like Ed and Don's truck out in the country, and so and so, and uh apparently they know exactly where to go, and so they start heading there. Um Kai's still in the house. Kai's restrained. Ed and Don are talking in like the back room about what they're gonna do, and and Kai breaks like his um hand restraining. Right, because Dawn Dawn is like, but he's just a kid, and Ed is kind of adamant that he he's just so over everything, he wants to just He was like replaying everything too, because I'm pretty sure at that point he looked over at Dawn. Like Ed looked over at Dawn and was like, Did you even love those women? Yeah. And he's like really reliving like the whole catfishing. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But I don't know how you uh then again, I'm saying this with like a rational brain, right? I'm not going to jail, so I'm just gonna kill another person.
SPEAKER_03Right?
SPEAKER_00But okay.
SPEAKER_03Like they literally were saying to each other, like, oh, we could just say he came to our house. And then he left. And so they were thinking about killing a child and hiding the body.
SPEAKER_00And and even she was saying, I'll just I'll just tell people what happened. Nobody knows that Nick was here. They they would just know that the catfishing came from me. We'll do community service and we'll leave, and that's it. And honestly, that might have been the best plan.
SPEAKER_03You know, if they killed Kai with a gun, um, they would easily be able to find out, like, hey, if like these two people were the last two, meaning Ed and Don, the last two people, to see this child, they're gonna run backgrounds on them. They're gonna find out that Ed had a gun license. Like, he had everything like secure in a box. I'm sure he had his gun license. I feel like people who don't have a gun license. No, people who have a gun license don't keep it in a safe box, like in their room, on the top shelf, locked. Like, no, and so they would easily find that. They would probably end up finding Kai's body, match the bullet to the one that's in the gun. He would like like I I don't know what they were thinking, like, they can get away with that. Right because, like, so clearly they couldn't. Anyway, Kai escapes, he like breaks the window, jumps out the window. Like, what a fucking brave kid. Um, and he starts running away, and Ed leans out like the the front door and shoots at him. And Kai falls to the ground, and so we think that like Kai's shot, but I think he was grazed and he really hit like the barrel.
SPEAKER_00We don't we don't know if he was hit. We just see him laying on the floor, and Dawn looks horrified by him laying on the floor, and then finally they come out to inspect to to see, but by the time they get outside, Kai's gone, and they realize that there's a bullet hole in a barrel. Yeah, like the barrel was right next to him. So that they're thinking that oh, it must have hit the barrel and not Kai.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but Kai's running away and he's limping, so I'm thinking he was at least grazed by the bullet.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Where he's still like in pain because he's now like injured and he's running away. The kid fucking runs into a barn that has a sensor light, so the light's on, and Don and Ed are catching up, and they realize they're like, Ed's like, look, and the barn light goes off. And they they have to know because they're like, oh my god, he's probably running to the neighbor's house. Anyway, they go into the barn and they're like, Kai, you're safe. And he like cops his gun. He's like, You're fine. Yeah. Exactly. He's like, You're safe now. It's like the kids should know. Right? Anyway, so the lights are off, they're talking, and because they're distracted, Kai escapes again, they're running after him, and this is when the police catch up with Don.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because by this time they they've all arrived up at this country trailer. Yeah, you're right.
SPEAKER_03Like the police are at the trailer, the trailer's empty. And the woman that was in the car with Detective Amiri, um, when Pia called him in like one of the last episodes. Like the other detective on his partner or whoever, she she identifies the family car as the one that ran Emma Beasley up the road. Yeah. I was like, oh my god, thank God for tying these strings together. Yeah. Mm-hmm. So anyway, the police catch up with Dawn as she's like on foot, kind of hobbling, because she's like old and not really fit and she can't run. And um, although we think that's the police catching up with Kai and they're flashing like a flashlight in his face.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because Sophie is yelling Kai's name, and Kai can hear, and he's just like, Mom, mom? And all he sees is flashlight, so he runs towards it, but it turns out to be Ed. It's Ed now. How can how is Kai not able to outrun Ed?
SPEAKER_03I don't know if he like grabbed him, maybe he was holding on to him. Yeah, but and Kai was afraid because he has like a gun and he knows that he already shot him.
SPEAKER_00But if they're running away from they were both in the barn, and Kai starts running. How how does Ed either catch up or get in front of him? That struck me as like not really making sense. Okay, maybe there was like a loop.
SPEAKER_03And he like he knew the direction he was running in, and they were like, alright, well, we know the area well. I'm thinking maybe it could be like that, but either way, like, and we don't even know if like Kai's running in a straight direction, because if he was going like literally if he was going this way, right? Like if he was going left and just running out, and he heard like a direction like north of his mom's voice, he could have ran that way, but Ed could have like saw this whole thing and caught him. Um you know what I mean? Yeah. Because he could have saw the direction he was running in, heard like the voices being called and cut him off.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_03So like there's there's some logic there because we don't know if Kai was running linear. You know what I mean? Like he could have been like squiggling. Mm-hmm. Alright. Alright. Um so But yeah, so but Ed catches Kai. And I guess starts walking him off to maybe like kill him in a desolate area instead of like killing him right there and then like leaving like bodily fluid evidence everywhere. So he has him like a headlock, right? So he has him like a headlock or some shit. Like he's walking with him, weapon pointed right at him, and Dawn is now captured by the police, and she's like, My husband has Kai, like literally gives up her husband, and he's like, and she's like, I'll take you guys to him. And like starts saying something to Sophie, like, you know, I love Kai or some shit. And Sophie's like, don't say his fucking name! She's like, keep my fucking son's name.
SPEAKER_00Alright, Will Smith.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03Sophie was not saying anything wrong. It was just like it was like kind of just like kind of funny. Like kind of funny. I don't know why I laughed a little bit, but it was just kind of funny. I think it's because Sophie's so square, and she's just like her cursing is like throws me off still.
SPEAKER_00It made the impact. Yeah. So Yeah. So Dawn Don pleads with the cops to let it her talk to Ed that he'll listen to her.
SPEAKER_03And then she takes the police and Sophie, and Pia to her husband. Like she starts calling out for Ed and Ed stops and he's like, Wife. Yeah. And he like goes towards the sound, and she literally brings the police to him. They're all pointing their guns at Ed. They're like, Let let him go, let him go. And Dawn says to Ed, she said I have the quote. She said, We've done enough to these people. Please let him go. I felt so bad in that moment because like it's almost as if you see Ed turn from trying to protect his wife to realizing the severity of what he's doing. Because I think he was also driven by his emotions, just like she was driven, like her emotions were love, and his emotion was love slash protection for his wife, regardless of whatever she did that um to me would like break up a marriage. Like he said, like he really took his vows. Yeah, yeah, he definitely did.
SPEAKER_00But when he lets Kai go.
SPEAKER_03And Kai runs over to Sophie, like initially that's his mother. And then but he doesn't put his gun down. And so now Amiri's leading the team in crisis management. And they like put the gun down.
SPEAKER_00But now when they're all I'm sorry, but when all the cops are yelling, it's it doesn't help any situation.
SPEAKER_03No, they were literally like Amiri was like, put the fucking gun down. And it's like if you think in your head that somebody's going to shoot again, whether at themselves or somebody else, wouldn't you try to like think about the way that he was talking to Simon when he was cornering Simon about just putting his hands on his head?
SPEAKER_00Because Simon didn't have any weapons and he was talking so calm. Even if he's just doing that, right? But then you have like two other cops yelling at him. That's a lot of simulation. That that's not relaxing, that's not calming. That's not I don't know. Yeah, they have a megaphone in the back, like put it down, Ed.
SPEAKER_03Like they use his name, and that's why I remember hearing that.
SPEAKER_00It's just so strange. Like to me, I'd be like, that would just make me more nervous. But that's me. But but it's it's what happened. Yeah. Like Ed shot again. So but he right, I don't even think did he get to shoot, or did he just raise the gun and then that was the end? Of what?
SPEAKER_03The episode?
SPEAKER_00Of Ed.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah. Yeah. No, Ed shot himself. Oh, he shot okay. Yeah, so what happened was just that Ed literally said, I'm sorry, Don. Yeah, he's like, I'm not going to jail or something like that. He's like, I can't do this anymore. I'm sorry, Don. And Ed raised the gun and shot himself.
SPEAKER_00I thought they wouldn't have shot him if he pointed the gun at himself. No, I thought I guess maybe I I missed that. I th I thought they shot him because he raised the gun. But either way. Either way, Ed is dead.
SPEAKER_03I I portrayed that whole scene as like Ed killing himself. Maybe. Maybe I just screwed that up. But Ed refuses to be arrested and forces the police to shoot him. Oh! Wow. Okay, so the official synopsis says that um Ed forces yeah, the Ed forces the police to shoot him. Death suicide by cop? Suicide by cop. I think that I mean like I was still considered that suicide. Ed did it to himself. Yeah. If you point a gun at a police officer, chances are you're gonna get shot. So he he knew what was happening. Right. He if the police didn't shoot him, he was gonna shoot himself. Yeah. And so Dawn is restrained by cops right now because obviously she's about to get like taken into custody. But she runs over to him. They like Amari gives the okay. This bitch is not cooperating tonight. Amari gives the okay to let Dawn run over to her husband. So Ed's obviously dead. Dawn's gonna be taken into custody. Kai knows what's going on because as Kai's being dragged away by Ed right before like he gets caught by the police, he says, You killed my dad, and Nick Ed says, like, I'm sorry, it wasn't supposed to be this way, or something like that. Like, he gives in. So Ed's dead. Ed's dead. Kai's with his mother, Dawn's being taken into custody. But like Sophie's face, and not Sophie, I'm sorry. Um, Pia's face is kind of shown throughout the whole like Ed trying to kill himself and the police shooting him. But she was horrified. She was like Sophie like I keep calling her Sophie, I don't know why. Piacea's face. Piacea. Piacea. Her face kind of just shows us what she thinks is gonna happen, and her face made me think that Ed's gonna kill himself. And then he held the gun up. And so, like Which which, as we know now, is like a previous trauma for her. Oh my god, yeah. Oh my god, I didn't even think about it like that. Yeah. Like, she didn't see her father kill himself, she only found her father. But this is like a whole like circle for her.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and then I'm I'm sure that the father suicide, and then her brother being killed, and now potentially witnessing this it's it's gotta fuck with you.
SPEAKER_03There's there's death and there's dying, and then there's watching somebody get killed or kill themselves. And she was witness to that whole thing. I mean, like, I still even though like it said that the police killed Ed, he was trying to kill himself anyway. So I honestly she watched like she watched death happen right in front of her. Yeah. So that's that's the end of that scene. Like, it immediately goes to like the next scene where probably like a day or two after Sophie's putting back up the pictures of Nick. Yeah. She's looking at him as in like he was the victim to this whole thing, but we know that's not the truth. Well, he put himself in the situation where he made the dating app in the first place back in 2018. Why?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we don't get an explanation on the the original dating app. Mm-hmm. And like Not that he deserves it in any way. And I know that that's not what you're saying, but Yeah.
SPEAKER_03But like as she's putting the photos back on the shelf, she has a flashback of like their anniversary party, the day that she told him that she was cheating on him. Of him kissing her and saying, I love you, and like her feelings were so genuine and like true. Yeah. They weren't like she wasn't thinking about the whys, she was just reminiscing on like their good memories.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. But then so at the end of the episode, at the end of the episode, they are having uh a true like an actual like an actual like service. And you see Sophie at the doorway of the church, and then Pia arrives with her mom, and they apologize for being late, and Andrea is all of a sudden like you know, happy again. Yeah, well, not happy, but you know, but she's like, but Sophie's going through as well. Right, because Sia was like, Oh, it's not my fault that I'm late, and Andrea's like, No, it's my fault, like you know, and then um um Amiri shows up and he's he says, I hope it's okay that I'm here, and and she says yes. And but it's Pia saying yes, not Sophie. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's talking directly to Pia. Right, thank you. And then he also mentions to Pia that they've brought Nick in. Uh, sorry, they've brought Matt in. Tara made a formal complaint about Aiden. I mean Aiden.
SPEAKER_03Alden, Alden, I'm sorry, I'm looking at my notes. Matt, his last name is Alden, and like the lowercase L looked like an I, and I was like, who the fuck is it, Aiden?
SPEAKER_00Like I was saying that as I was reading. He lets her know that they've that they've uh like I guess brought him in for questioning or whatever. He already knew because she said I knew. And she was like, Yeah, I know. Yeah, come on. Like, who's the fucking detective here? Oh my god. Rashawn. Yeah. Get back on Tinder.
SPEAKER_03Oh my god. So that's it. But like when Andrea comes, she openly embraces Ethan and Kai, and she's like my loving grandchildren, or something like that. They walk into like the I think they're having a service at a church. It looks like a church from the outside. So they walk into the church, and then right now only it's Sophie, Pia, and Detective Amiri outside. Yeah, that's all you see. Yeah, we don't know if it's Mary then Amiri then walks in. Um, because there's like a vestibule blocking like the actual like service. You don't just walk into like where like the seating is. So either way, he walks into the church, and the only people left are Pia and Sophie. And Sophie like quickly breaks down. She's just like, I guess she's like, This is like he's actually dead now. Right, it's all sinking in. Yeah, and she starts crying, and Pia it's like, I'm always here from you. Like, we're family, right? We're s we're still family, right? And Sophie's like, yeah, and they they hug, they hold hands, and they walk into the church. But while they're hugging, it's like a very like drawn-out scene. Sophie is just like living in that emotion. But Pia kind of looks off, and Pia is like thinking while And I'm wondering if Pia's thinking about if Sophie was aware of Nick's dating pro profile all along. I wonder if Sophie I mean, I wonder if Pia knows everything we know. I like I wonder if Dawn said like bat like if Dawn gave an actual testimony while she was in custody and if Pia knew the whole thing because of like her connection with the Miri, and if Pia knew that she started this from 2018 and she said that you know, like there was the profile, like I noticed it on his phone, like and actually said what we saw. Like I'm assuming what we saw was the truth, but you never know with the show because we thought that Emma was actually having sex with Nick and like she never even met him in person. Never even heard his real voice.
SPEAKER_00So I don't know. Yeah. I don't know how much they know. I don't and right now it doesn't look like there'll be a season two. It's not impossible, but but it wouldn't be worth it.
SPEAKER_03I feel like these questions are questions that we should have.
SPEAKER_00Right. Like and what's what's the goal? I mean, if there's eight episodes, what are they gonna focus on? Exactly.
SPEAKER_03Like it's not I I really like I don't even think I would want to watch it if there was I would probably end up watching it if there was a season two. Yeah, because we watched the first one. Excuse me. Yeah, but I wouldn't I don't know. But maybe this part, like us reflecting back, should be saved for our last episode of season two of Assassin's.
SPEAKER_00Okay. The only other point that I'd like to talk about is um, which is what we touched on before about the feeling bad. Because Dawn got herself into this whole mess. Yeah. There's there's no other way to put it. But once her husband dies, you can't help but feel bad for her. You know, one side of you was like, well, fuck you, because like you took somebody else's husband away from them. You took some not only a husband, but a father.
SPEAKER_03And he he was innocent. Right, right, he you know, it's not even like he pissed her off in any way and this was her like revenge. Like he was literally just living his life, and she's the one who infiltrated like this whole thing. Like I I felt just as bad as you felt. And and I then questioned my my guilt. Like not guilt, but I questioned my emotions.
SPEAKER_00Because it's empathy. At the end of the day, I think it's just empathy that you don't want to.
SPEAKER_03Somebody hurt, or you don't want to see somebody losing somebody that means so much to them.
SPEAKER_00And the truth of the matter was she was hurt the whole time, which is what led her to do all this fucked up shit. And I'm not saying that it's Ed's fault, but you had to feel well, I guess you didn't have to feel bad, any you out there, but I feel like it's not impossible to feel bad for her knowing where this all came from. And I'm not excusing her behavior because what she did was a thousand percent wrong, but it sucks because that's what made her happy, and if only she was happier, none of this would ever happen. And then at the end of the day, she lost everything.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. So it just makes you think like when I think of crimes, I don't think immediately of catfishing as a crime, but look at what like a small act against laws could do. And you think it's not that big of a deal because it's just like the internet, it's not like you're physically doing anything. Right? But it's like look what kind of an impact that has, that it has almost more of an impact than just like walking to up to somebody random on the street and killing them.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03You know, like because there's so much like psychological damage behind this. It wasn't just physically assaulting somebody or hurting somebody, there was more to this. It I don't know. It was really fucked up. I mean, the whole thing was fucked up, but that made for a really interesting show. And we knew that going in, like, thrillers aren't not fucked up, so I don't know. I really felt like I don't think they were just trying to escape in the last episode by just pointing the blame at somebody random and being like, okay, no, no, no. End of the show, the end. Like, I I really like the way that this whole thing was played out.
SPEAKER_00And I think that that goes right back into the title of clickbait, because that that's exactly what clickbait is. It's you know, an attention grab or something that you think is gonna be one thing and then it's not. Yeah, and so at this point you're like, oh no, it's fucking Matt. It's Matt. It's definitely.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, when it was sitting on fucking PS steps, I was like, oh my god, I thought this was gonna kill the sister too.
SPEAKER_00I started thinking that it was Matt by like the third episode, and then every episode that went when I was watched the first time, every episode that came, I was like, Oh no, it's definitely fucking Matt. It's definitely fucking Matt. Oh hell yeah, it's fucking Matt. Especially after like his encounter with Emma. Right, and then by the by the seventh episode, by the end of the sun, I was like, come on with this bullshit. It's Matt, like, yeah, but this is his address, right?
SPEAKER_03I think I said that last episode.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and then by episode eight, I was like, what the fuck? I didn't see that. Oh, they got me.
SPEAKER_03They got me, they got me too. But they got us because they they withheld characters, and like they didn't withhold Dawn, it's just the fact that I think she was in episode one, she was in episode three for a split second. No, episode three was the mistress, right? Yeah, I mean she In the Mistress, that's when they had that little ceremony for the honor Nick's life at the school. She was featured for literally a whole second, and then she was in episode seven just for a little bit because she was like helping Pia break into that's computer. Suspect her.
SPEAKER_00No, because they didn't lead us that way, and that wasn't the narrative, and episode seven with the brother. Yeah, that episode got us because then you're like, oh shit, they found who did it, and then they're like, Nope.
SPEAKER_03I was freaking the fuck out. I was watching that episode, I was sitting on like my boyfriend's like bedroom floor, folding his laundry because he was having like a little meltdown. I was like, It's okay, I got your laundry. And and he was like in the shower, and I'm like trying to take care of his shit, watching the episode, and I'm like, oh my god, and I stopped everything I was doing. I was just like, I just kind of like sat there, like sitting in his closet, just watching this episode, and he comes out, he's like, You okay? And I'm like, I think we found out who the killer was. He's like, Are you okay? But yeah, like this was great.
SPEAKER_00We made it to the end, we did. So let's let's do um like we'll plan for a recap episode where we can just kind of gloss over the whole series as a whole and the themes and whatever. And it obviously doesn't have to be like a long episode, and then maybe we'll take like a week off because fuck it, we deserve it, and we need to go get like tacos and shit.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, we do.
SPEAKER_00And I I passed by Rosalita's the other day, and I was like, oh Brittany. They have good drinks, and their food's not bad.
SPEAKER_03Their food's good. I don't want to say not bad because that sounds like it's not good.
SPEAKER_00And then and then we'll be back with the next show. Yeah. And and we have um, we have a uh an idea of what it's gonna be. But we we're not saying just yet, just in case, but stay tuned for that announcement. It'll probably be in the next episode. Yeah. And we have another Patreon bonus coming up. We do, we do, we have to record that soon. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03I have I have my I actually I watched the episode twice in a row. I like finished it and then I watched it again because I was like, there's so much going on. There's so much going on.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it was it was the whole like this. Look at this, like these are my notes. It's like so much and then I'm like, and the gambits.
SPEAKER_03It was the whole, like just like this show, like the whole intertwining of like shit that you don't think like matters until the end.
SPEAKER_00Right, yeah, because you're like, why the fuck? Oh yeah, yeah. So, but okay, clickbait. We we we are so bad with tangy. Alright. Overall, just just like really quick.
SPEAKER_03How how was it for you? I enjoyed this experience. I really, really did. Not like the recording of the podcast. Well, I mean, I knew it didn't. But like that shit. Oh my god. No, I wish like shut the fuck up.
SPEAKER_01I'm sorry. I almost just put line all over.
SPEAKER_03I mean, like, I wish like we could have done it more consecutively, but like schedules of life and stuff. But like, yeah, I more I feel like more than watching this show, I just enjoyed the fact that I wasn't allowed to watch the next episode. That they were almost like I enjoyed that part so much, which is more like a personal thing. Like, I just binge too many shows, and there's no like um like expectation, right? Um, anticipation, there's no like build-up for the next episode. I and this added to the thriller, like the build-up and the fact that I couldn't find out like who the killer was.
SPEAKER_00And I have to say that the show that you and I are thinking of is a show that I have not seen, and I'm so excited to be on that side of it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, although you do kind of find out at the end of every episode, because every episode's its own thing, but yeah, no, but it doesn't matter because it's it's gonna be the same thing.
SPEAKER_00I haven't seen the episode, I don't know what's gonna happen, and I have to watch appropriately, not binge, not jump ahead, not research. So I'm I'm looking forward to being that person and and being the one in the dark and being the one with the crazy theories and being like, you know.
SPEAKER_03And I'm excited to re-watch and remember, because I haven't seen like the show that we're both thinking of in a year or so, and to relive the experience of watching it. Because it's it's just like when you find a show that's so so heartwarming, or even it gives you a nostalgic feeling when you're watching it again, even though you didn't experience this many, many years ago. Um, it just feels really, really warm coming back to it, especially in like times of like uncertainty. Yeah. So you know, you're not the same person that you were necessarily. Exactly. And so I feel like I'm visiting an old friend as a new person. I like we all feel that way about friends or the office or Seinfeld or whatever your easy binge TV show is that everybody has, but I'm excited I get to be in that position. Because like that was the position you were kind of in. So it's gonna be nice, it's gonna be fun, and I really, really enjoyed this, and I hope everybody listening enjoyed just as much as we did.
SPEAKER_00Me too. I'm I'm looking forward to the recap episode. I'm looking forward to our so-called pod party.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I feel like we oh, sorry. I feel like we have like a lot to talk about in the recap, but I want I really I I don't want to say want and demand, but I really hope. Yeah, I want. No, I I really hope that our viewers kind of give us some questions to guide our conversation.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you guys have been kind of quiet lately.
SPEAKER_03Because I feel like Do you guys love us anymore? Having you guys guide the conversation would be so much more beneficial as a recap rather than us being like, well, this happened in episode one, and like who fucking cares? Yeah. Like we talked about like each episode on their own, like to have it directed by viewers instead of by us the watching.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, look, one of the things that I love about this podcast and the podcasting community is the interaction. And it's so nice, like obviously, we're not celebrities, right? By no means, but we are here on a on this platform, and so there is uh a certain dynamic, but it's so cool to be able to just have a conversation with somebody because they listen to your show, and it's it's so nice.
SPEAKER_03It's like being in a class in college on a specific topic that none of your friends are taking this class, and then all of a sudden you meet somebody in the outside world who has the same knowledge on that topic, and you get to sit down and just bullshit about it. I feel like we both had that moment when we realized that we both listened to the first series, the first um season of the serial podcast, because we didn't know that we were listening to it. Like I found it on my own, you found it on your own. And when we realized that we both knew what was going on in that story, we had so much shit to talk about, right? And it was so much fun having that conversation because I was just used to like my one-sided narrative of like me thinking about things in my head, or like me listening to the person on the podcast without like you know what I mean, right? Yeah, so I mean, like, I don't have to go into explaining it, but like it's just it's nice to have a conversation with people who know exactly what you're talking about.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, a hundred percent, a hundred percent. Uh, on that note, even though Britney and I have a series in mind for the next um quote unquote series season, please feel free to send in any suggestions. We are obviously always open to hearing from you guys because that's that's part of the fun. I mean, who like who wants to make a podcast that nobody wants to listen to? So if if you guys want to hear something, we will definitely look into that. And I mean, we we may do the recap and then take a week or two off just to regroup and to give time to prepare shit. Um, but we but it shouldn't be too long. Uh we we don't we don't want to take too long of a break.
SPEAKER_03No, because this is fun.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, this this has been so cool. And and a hundred thousand percent I love Agnes. Agnes is Ryder Die. Like that's that's from from third grade. But Agnes and I never got to do this in person, yeah. Except for literally the one time we recorded the promo. I was gonna say, because you did like the teaser, like the promo. That was the one and only time we got to do it in person because we live far from each other and then the pandemic, so it's this has been in a new dynamic, even for me. Yeah, and so this has been so much fun, and I can wait till we can like record on a day when it doesn't rain, and so maybe we can do us up.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, just to have it not be so formal, but informal, and that's what I like about this.
SPEAKER_00And we could probably go to your house too. We could, because you your yard is a little bit more insulated than mine, like my mine we have like that little like alcove kind of like under the pergola. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And we'll hear like crickets and shit.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah, it'll add to the story. Oh yeah, and honestly, um, it would be great to take Agnes' consideration into what we're watching next as well. And even though she does lead a very busy life, which is completely understandable. Completely, completely. I sympathize with her so much.
SPEAKER_00But let me tell you, she still finds time to text me to remind me to get a mammogram.
SPEAKER_03And if she has time to text you, that she has time to be on like one or two episodes where we can talk about things. I made an appointment. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I told her. I was like, you'll be happy to know. She's like, good. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_03No, but it would be great to have like Agnes come on an episode. Oh my god, and the three of us get to talk about what we just watched.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03Do you hear this?
unknownListen.
SPEAKER_03One or two. One or two. Listen up, Agnes. Listen up. It's not not like a full commitment, like a guest. Like she's our favorite guest.
SPEAKER_00I know. Yeah. Sorry, Jamar.
SPEAKER_03You've been downgraded. But I think something like that would be amazing. And Alex has been downgraded too. Oh, yeah, no, Alex. Fuck Alex.
SPEAKER_00No, we love Alex, but it's okay. Yeah. No, we we love all the friends of the pod. You you got the thing is you guys make the show with us. So we wouldn't be where we're at if it wasn't for everybody who's been along the ride with us. So you know. But uh, I'm um, I don't want to get like sentimental.
SPEAKER_03I've I've had a lot to drink and a little bit of food, so yeah, no, my stomach's going, and I'm like, I drank that whole half glass of wine, and I got dried.
SPEAKER_00When you say a half glass of wine, like let's not forget who poured it. Oh no, no, it was to the brim.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. So half is like a regular person glass of wine. And I'm like, I'm sitting here and I'm thinking, like, what the he going?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and we started at like 11 o'clock in the morning. Oh my god, it's thuck, it's three. Because I was supposed to go to the Yankee game tonight. Um, all dressed and ready to go. So we had to record early and the fucking rain. Ugh. I've been waiting two fucking years for Star Wars night to come back. It will at a later date. But yeah, this is around our time where those of you who have been around since the last days have probably heard this rant.
SPEAKER_03Are you serious? Oh, yeah, because you were recording like during quarantines.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And they cancel Star Wars Day, and and and that's like my favorite game of the year. Oh god.
SPEAKER_03Well, either way, um, although our podcast is ending, meaning this episode very soon, I won't be leaving your house for a little bit because remember you won't be leaving my house or their house.
SPEAKER_00You Oh, did I say my house? No, you said I won't be leaving your house. Oh, Lisa's house.
SPEAKER_03For a little bit. Only because we don't drink and drive. Remember, when you drink, stay out. Okay, you can drink it. Drink with our friends on the internet.
SPEAKER_00Please do not drink and get into the car and drive. And if you guys are happy and um we appreciate you hanging out with us. Like, thank you so much for listening. And if you've gotten this far, honestly, we appreciate it. Please tell a friend. That is the the the biggest the the most huge the the best way of spreading our word. The best compliment you could give is to seriously just tell a friend and let them know that this is a show that they may enjoy. And we again we we just we appreciate it. Um, on that note, I'm Brittany. And I'm Lisa. And until next time on Sassin Sips, we are out of here. Finish the show so you can listen to us next episode.
SPEAKER_03Document everything. Bye guys.
